Chapter 7 - The Road To Recovery

The next three weeks marked a period of healing, not just for Emily’s body, but for the entire family.
Under Miles’s insistence, Emily was transferred to a state-of-the-art rehabilitation facility nestled in the peaceful countryside just outside the city. Surrounded by rolling green hills, tall trees, and quiet gardens, the facility offered physical therapy, neurological care, and a serene environment for recovery.
Miles restructured his entire life. He appointed a new Co-CEO to handle the day-to-day operations of Wilson Biotech, freeing up his schedule so he could spend every morning and late afternoon with Emily and Sophie.
Every day, Miles brought Sophie to the center after school. He had enrolled her in a prestigious, warm-hearted primary school near the facility, where she quickly made friends and blossomed into a cheerful, energetic child.
During physical therapy sessions, Miles was always there, holding Emily’s arm as she re-learned to walk, step by tentative step, along the parallel bars in the therapy hall.
"You're pushing too hard, Em," Miles would joke gently whenever she grimaced with determination.
"I have a lot of lost time to make up for," Emily would reply, wiping sweat from her forehead before taking another step forward.
One afternoon, while Sophie was playing in the facility's garden with a nurse, Miles sat with Emily on a wooden bench overlooking a calm pond.
"I went by your old apartment yesterday," Miles mentioned quietly.
Emily looked at him, her expression cautious. "And?"
"I paid off the lease," Miles said. "I also packed up all your personal belongings, your sewing equipment, and your photo albums. They’ve been moved to a new house I bought in the hills near my penthouse."
Emily frowned slightly, her pride surfacing. "Miles, I told you... I don't want your charity. I’ve built a life on my own terms."
"It's not charity, Em," Miles interrupted gently, taking her hands in his. "It’s family. The house is registered in your name and Sophie’s. It has a beautiful garden, a sunlit studio where you can design dresses, and a neighborhood with great parks for Sophie. You spent ten years fighting the world alone. Let me stand beside you now. Not as a billionaire fixing a problem, but as a brother caring for his sister."

Emily looked into his earnest eyes, seeing no trace of the cold, arrogant CEO who had walked away ten years ago. She saw the boy who used to share his lunch with her, the brother who had given his own blood to keep her breathing.
Her eyes welled with tears, and she nodded softly. "Okay, Miles. Okay."
