Chapter 7 - The Reckoning

The ballroom of the Grand Central Financial Center was packed to absolute capacity. Media outlets from around the globe—television networks, investigative journalists, financial bloggers, and international news agencies—flashed camera lights that strobed like lightning against the marble pillars.
This wasn't a standard corporate press conference. It was a global media event orchestrated with military precision by Paul Devo’s elite public relations and legal teams.
When Paul walked onto the stage, dressed in a sharp charcoal suit, the room erupted into a deafening wall of shouted questions, microphone thrusts, and camera shutters. He didn't smile. He walked straight to the center podium, placed a heavy silver box on the glass surface, and looked directly into the lenses of the primary broadcast cameras.
He raised a single hand, and the room slowly quieted down, hanging on his every word.
"Three weeks ago, I purchased an abandoned property on the outskirts of the city," Paul began, his deep, resonant voice carrying effortlessly through the auditorium speakers. "It was supposed to be a simple real estate acquisition. Numbers on a spreadsheet. Instead, I found something that changed my life forever."
He paused, letting the silence build across the room.
"In the basement of that forgotten hotel, I found a dying mother named Sophie Vance, shielding her newborn twin boys with her own body, alongside her five-year-old daughter, Clare. Sophie died hours later—not from random misfortune, but because she was hunted, starved, and systematically destroyed by one of the most powerful biotech corporations in the world: Aether Technologies."
An audible gasp rippled through the packed ballroom. Flashbulbs intensified a hundredfold.
"Six years ago, Sophie was a lead researcher at Aether," Paul continued, his voice hardening with righteous fury. "She discovered that the company was willfully pushing toxic, untested pharmaceuticals into human clinical trials to protect their stock valuation. When she blew the whistle, Aether didn't investigate her claims. They terrorized her. They froze her assets, threatened her life, and forced a brilliant young scientist into hiding in a freezing, derelict hotel basement where she spent her final years protecting her children in the dark."
On the massive LED screen behind Paul, documents, financial transfers, internal emails, and unredacted safety reports flashed into view—the exact contents of the genuine silver box. The smoking gun. Proof positive of corporate malfeasance, intimidation, and gross criminal negligence.
"Aether thought they had buried the evidence," Paul said, his eyes blazing with absolute conviction. "They even sent operatives into my home just days ago to steal what they thought was the final proof. But the truth cannot be locked away in a safe, and it cannot be silenced by corporate greed."
Paul leaned into the microphone, delivering the final blow.
"As of this morning, my legal team has filed multi-billion-dollar criminal class-action lawsuits against Aether Technologies and every individual executive involved in the persecution and death of Sophia Vance. Furthermore, federal regulators have officially seized Aether’s primary research facilities pending a full criminal investigation."
He looked directly into the camera lens, knowing that Victor Vance and his corrupt board of directors were watching from their corporate ivory towers.

"Your game is over."
The room exploded into chaos as journalists scrambled for their phones, shouting follow-up questions, but Paul turned away from the podium and walked off the stage. The reckoning had arrived.
