Chapter 9 - A New Dawn of Hope

As evening approached, casting long golden rays across the rolling hills and quiet woods surrounding the cabin, Sergeant Miller and Officer Reyes prepared to leave.

"Thank you again, for everything," Clara said softly as they stood on the porch, watching the sun dip below the tree line. "For walking through that front door six months ago and bringing us back from the edge."

"We just did our jobs, Clara," Miller replied, tipping his hat with a gentle smile. "Though I’d say the real hero of this story is standing right beside you."

He winked at Lily, who beamed proudly.

After the cruisers drove away down the winding road, Clara scooped up baby Noah in one arm and held Lily’s small hand with the other as they walked back inside, closing the door gently against the cool evening breeze.

The house was filled with light, music, and the sound of children laughing—a stark contrast to the terrifying silence that had gripped the home half a year ago.

Later that night, after the twins were safely tucked into their cozy, matching cribs and the house had grown quiet, Clara sat on the edge of Lily’s bed, smoothing the patchwork quilt over her shoulders.

"Are you happy, Mommy?" Lily asked softly, her big eyes reflecting the warm glow of the bedside nightlight.

"More happy than I ever thought possible, my sweet angel," Clara whispered, pressing a tender kiss to Lily's forehead. "You saved us all, Lily. You brought us back into the light."

May you like

Lily smiled sleepily, her eyelids growing heavy. "We stick together, right? Just like you taught me."

"Always," Clara promised, wrapping her arms securely around her daughter. "Always and forever."
