Chapter 10 - The Horizon of Grace

The early summer sun of June returned to Central Park one year after the event that changed everything.
The air was warm, smelling of damp grass, blooming flowers, and roasted coffee. Joggers moved along the paved path, cyclists passed close by, and a man sold coffee from a cart near the fountain. The world looked exactly the same as it had on that fateful morning.
But Michael Rivers was not the same man.
He walked down the main path, his hand inside his pocket, his fingers brushing against a small, plastic object—a strawberry lollipop that Mia had given him for good luck that morning. He wasn't rushing. He didn't check his watch. He didn't care about the speed of his schedule.
He stopped at the exact spot where he had collapsed a year ago. The sun-warmed iron railing was still there, the flowers in the bed blooming in vibrant shades of red and gold.
Michael looked down at the pavement. It was just gray concrete, a common piece of city infrastructure. But to him, it was an altar—the place where his old life of cold, isolated control had died, and where a new life of connection, warmth, and grace had begun.
"Michael! Hurry up! The ducks are hungry!"
Michael looked up. A few yards ahead, Clara was walking slowly, holding a basket of breadcrumbs. Beside her, Lily and Mia were skipping, their small sneakers clicking softly against the pavement, their pink and yellow dresses fluttering in the gentle breeze.
They stopped and looked back at him, their faces bright with identical smiles.
"We’re coming, girls," Michael called out, his voice strong, healthy, and full of life.

He took a deep breath of the warm summer air. His chest felt light, his heart beating with a steady, joyous rhythm. He walked forward, leaving the spot behind him, no longer a stranger in the crowd, no longer invisible, and never again alone.
He caught up with them, taking Lily’s hand in his right, and Mia’s in his left. Together, the billionaire and the angels who had saved him walked down the path toward the bright, open horizon of a beautiful new day.
