Chapter 10 - The True Legacy

Four years after that fateful morning in Richmond, on a crisp spring morning, I walked through the grand entrance of the Charlottesville Cultural Arts Center.
Today was the opening exhibition of my new art series, titled “Unbroken Light”—a collection of oil paintings capturing the journey of recovery, strength, and rebirth. Half of the proceeds from the sales were dedicated to funding our foundation’s new shelter facility in Richmond.

The gallery was packed with art collectors, community leaders, family members, and legal advocates. My mother and father walked slowly through the hall, admiring the paintings, while Julian entertained potential donors near the central podium.
In the center of the main gallery room hung the centerpiece of the exhibition—a large, breathtaking canvas depicting a mother sitting by a bright window, holding a baby wrapped in a blanket with tiny lavender stars, looking out over a stormy sky that was breaking into brilliant shades of gold and pink sunrise.
