Chapter 10 - A New Dawn on Bellevue Avenue

The autumn sun broke brilliantly through the clouds as the black sedan turned off Bellevue Avenue and rolled smoothly through the newly repaired iron gates of the Ostrander estate.

The rusted hinges were gone, replaced by oiled brass that swung silently at a touch.

The charred ruins of the old guesthouse had been cleared away, leaving behind a freshly graded lawn where wildflowers had already begun to take root in the rich coastal soil. The grand granite facade of the mansion gleamed in the October sunlight, its windows washed crystal clear, reflecting the endless blue of the Atlantic Ocean below.

Nathan stepped out of the car, followed closely by Warrick.

The mastiff leaped out behind them, bounding across the manicured grass toward the cliff edge, barking once—a rich, resonant sound that carried far out over the crashing waves, echoing against the stone walls of the estate like a declaration of victory.

Nathan walked up the grand granite steps, pausing at the threshold of the heavy oak front door. He didn't look back at the Newport society gossipers, the cowardly investors, or the corrupt politicians who had tried to bury the truth in fire and silence.

Those men were gone, locked away behind gray walls of their own making.

Here, on the cliffs above the Atlantic, the air was clean, sharp, and alive.

Warrick stopped beside him, placing one heavy hand on Nathan’s shoulder—the same gesture he had offered since Nathan was a boy, only this time, there was no shadow of doubt between them.

“Your father would have liked this view,” Warrick said softly.

Nathan looked out across the endless horizon, where the white gulls soared above the deep blue water, and the black mastiff sat proudly at the edge of the lawn, guarding its domain in the brilliant morning light.

“He always knew the truth stays buried only until the right person comes to dig it up,” Nathan replied.

He turned and stepped inside his home, the heavy oak door closing quietly behind them as a new, unbroken era began.
