Chapter 10 - The Miracles We Make

Sebastian turned to face me completely, taking both of my hands in his. His gaze was steady, tender, and fiercely loving.

"Clare," he said, his voice trembling slightly with emotion. "For twenty years, I lived in a dark, bitter world. I thought strength meant ruling through fear, and I thought my life was over before it truly began. But you walked into my darkness and showed me that true strength isn't about power—it's about love, healing, and never giving up on the people who need you."

He slowly sank down onto one knee—a posture he had earned through blood, sweat, tears, and an unbreakable bond of trust.

He opened the velvet box, revealing a flawless, radiant-cut diamond that caught the glittering lights of the Chicago skyline.

"You saved my life, Clare Bennett," Sebastian said softly, looking up into my eyes. "Now, I want to spend the rest of my standing years making sure you and Oliver never suffer another day in your lives. Will you marry me?"

Tears spilled over my eyelashes, running down my cheeks as a radiant smile broke across my face.

"Yes," I whispered, my voice thick with joy. "Yes, Sebastian! A thousand times yes!"

Sebastian stood up, slipped the ring onto my finger, and pulled me into his arms, kissing me deeply under the starry Chicago sky. The applause from inside the ballroom faded into the background, leaving only the sound of our shared breaths and the bright promise of our future.

They all said I was wasting my time. They said the man in the wheelchair was beyond saving, that his spine was destroyed, and that his heart was made of stone.

They were wrong.

Sometimes, miracles don't come from medicine or magic. Sometimes, miracles are built by two hands that refuse to give up, a mother's fierce devotion, and a man brave enough to stand up and rebuild his life from the ashes.

As Oliver ran out onto the balcony, throwing his arms around both of us, I looked out over the glittering lake and held my family tight.

Danger had found me once in a dark, rainy clinic. But love had found us all—and this time, it was here to stay.
