Lily was now a bright, confident teenager attending a prestigious local arts academy, her bedroom walls adorned with award-winning paintings and sketches that captured the vibrant spirit of our journey. She no longer remembered the bitterness of that long-ago Christmas Eve with any sense of pain; it had long since transformed into a distant, faded memory of a storm we had successfully weathered together.
My career at Vance & Sterling LLP had reached its pinnacle. As the managing senior partner of the forensic audit division, my name was synonymous with uncompromising integrity, financial justice, and ethical corporate governance. On a warm, beautiful Saturday afternoon in May, Lily and I stood in our sun-drenched backyard, surrounded by blooming tulips, lush green lawns, and the sweet scent of spring blossoms.

Rosa stood beside me near the garden patio, holding a glass of iced tea as we watched Lily laugh with her friends near the oak tree.
