Chapter 10 - HAPPILY EVER AFTER

The golden hour sun cast a warm, honey-colored light over the ocean view at the coastal cottage.
It was a special evening. Friends and family had gathered in the backyard, which was decorated with fairy lights strung between white wooden posts, fresh wildflowers filling vases on long wooden dining tables.
Marcus was at the grill, laughing with colleagues from the foundation. David’s family was mingling with neighbors, the air filled with music, clinking glasses, and genuine joy.
Clara stood near the edge of the bluff, watching the sun dip beneath the horizon, painting the sky in brilliant shades of pink, orange, and gold.
David walked up behind her, gently placing a soft wool shawl around her shoulders. He wrapped his arms around her from behind, pulling her close against the evening breeze.
"Thinking about how far we've come?" David asked gently, kissing her temple.
"I was thinking about how simple happiness really is," Clara murmured, leaning back into his warmth. "It isn't in grand ballrooms or crystal trophies. It’s right here."
Sophie came running over, her puppy trotting happily at her heels. She wore a simple white summer dress, her hands full of colorful sea glass she had collected from the beach below.
"Mommy, look!" Sophie beamed, holding out her hands to display the polished, glowing pieces of glass—rubbed smooth by the ocean, shining like precious gems in the twilight. "Look how pretty they are!"
Clara knelt down in front of her daughter, taking a smooth piece of cobalt blue sea glass and holding it up to the setting sun.
"You know what sea glass is, Sophie?" Clara asked softly, her eyes filled with tenderness.
"It’s broken glass from the ocean!" Sophie said proudly.
"That's right," Clara smiled, wrapping her fingers gently around Sophie’s hands. "It started out as something broken and sharp. But after enduring the rough waves and the storm, it turned into something beautiful, smooth, and strong."
Sophie smiled softly, her big brown eyes reflecting the golden light of the sky. "Like us, Mommy?"
Clara felt a warm tear of pure happiness slip down her cheek. She pulled Sophie tight into her arms, hugging her with all the love in her heart. David knelt beside them, wrapping his arms around both of them under the vast, peaceful sky.

"Yes, my sweet girl," Clara whispered, her voice overflowing with peace. "Just like us."
Behind them, the sound of laughter and music echoed from the warm, welcoming lights of their home. The night was quiet, the sea was calm, and for Clara and her family, the storm was finally over forever.
