Part 2: The Man in the Glass Tower

The ring didn’t end up where Ellie expected.

At a small pawn shop near downtown, the owner barely looked at it before his hands started shaking.

“This… this is not something I can buy,” he said. “You need a private buyer.”

Two hours later, Ellie stood outside a towering glass building, soaked, exhausted, clutching the ring in her tiny palm.

Security tried to stop her.

But then a man stepped out.

He was young, sharp-suited, and surrounded by silence the way powerful people often were. His name was Adrian Cole, a billionaire investor known for building companies that people said changed the world—but never noticing the people inside it.

When his eyes fell on the ring, everything in him stopped.

He went pale.

“That… can’t be,” he whispered.

Ellie held it up proudly. “It’s my mom’s. I’m selling it to buy medicine so she doesn’t die.”

Adrian took the ring carefully, like it might break him.

Inside the blue stone was a faint crack only he recognized.

A memory.

A promise.

Years ago, before the billions, before the towers, before he became someone who no longer called people back—there had been Claire.

The woman who once saved him when he had nothing.

The woman he never came back for.

And now her child was standing in front of him, selling the last piece of her past to keep her alive.

For the first time in years, Adrian Cole couldn’t speak.

He just turned away, eyes burning.

“Find her mother,” he said sharply to his assistant. “Now.”
