PART 2 – The Secret They Stole

That night should have been perfect.

After three years apart, Ethan sat at the dinner table with Claire and the children.

Laughter filled the house again.

For the first time in years, the mansion felt alive.

Yet something felt wrong.

Every few minutes Ethan noticed Claire staring at him with concern.

Not because she doubted him.

Because she was afraid.

After the children finally fell asleep, Claire led him to the study.

She locked the door.

Ethan immediately sensed trouble.

"What is it?" he asked.

Claire hesitated.

Then she opened a drawer and pulled out a thick folder.

"There's something you need to know."

Inside were financial statements.

Bank records.

Property documents.

Company reports.

Ethan's expression darkened.

Millions of dollars were missing.

"What happened?"

Claire swallowed hard.

"After everyone thought you were dead, your business partner took control."

Ethan froze.

Richard Hale.

His closest friend.

The man he trusted more than anyone.

"No."

Claire nodded.

"He told everyone he was protecting the company."

Ethan flipped through the documents.

The evidence was everywhere.

Accounts emptied.

Assets transferred.

Investments disappeared.

Richard had stolen everything.

For three years.

While Ethan was fighting to survive.

While Claire struggled to feed their children.

Richard had built a fortune.

Using Ethan's name.

Using Ethan's company.

Using Ethan's trust.

A cold anger settled inside him.

The kind that frightened even him.

"Does anyone know I'm back?"

Claire looked away.

"I told only a few people."

At that exact moment Ethan's phone rang.

An unknown number.

He answered.

Silence.

Then a familiar voice.

"Welcome home, Ethan."

Richard.

The room instantly became colder.

Ethan stood.

"What do you want?"

A laugh echoed through the speaker.

"You should have stayed dead."

Claire's face turned pale.

Richard continued.

"You have no idea what you've walked into."

The line disconnected.

For several seconds nobody spoke.

Then the security alarm suddenly exploded throughout the house.

Sirens blared.

Lights flashed red.

The children woke upstairs screaming.

Claire ran toward them.

Ethan rushed to the security monitors.

His blood froze.

Three black SUVs had stopped outside the gates.

Masked men poured out.

At least ten of them.

The gates were already being forced open.

Richard wasn't trying to hide anymore.

He wanted Ethan gone.

Forever.

Ethan's military instincts returned instantly.

"Claire!"

She appeared carrying the youngest twin.

"What do we do?"

"Take the kids to the panic room."

The hidden room beneath the basement had been built years ago.

Few people knew it existed.

Claire hurried away.

The children were terrified.

Ethan grabbed the emergency shotgun stored behind a wall safe.

Not because he wanted violence.

Because he had no choice.

The front doors shattered.

Heavy footsteps echoed through the mansion.

The intruders spread throughout the house.

Searching.

Hunting.

One voice shouted.

"Find him!"

Ethan moved silently through the dark hallway.

Every instinct sharpened.

Every sense alert.

A masked man turned the corner.

Ethan disarmed him instantly.

A second attacker rushed forward.

The fight lasted seconds.

Soon both men lay unconscious.

But more were coming.

Far more.

Then Ethan heard a familiar voice downstairs.

Richard himself had entered the mansion.

He stood in the foyer.

Smiling.

Expensive suit.

Perfect hair.

The appearance of a successful businessman.

The heart of a thief.

Richard looked around casually.

"Ethan!"

His voice echoed through the house.

"You lost three years."

Silence.

"You lost your company."

More silence.

"You lost your future."

Ethan stepped from the shadows.

"No."

Richard turned.

Their eyes met.

"I came back."

For a moment Richard's confidence cracked.

Then he laughed.

"You think you can take everything back?"

"I know I can."

Richard's smile vanished.

"You should have stayed buried."

Suddenly he pulled a handgun.

The shot echoed through the mansion.

Claire screamed somewhere below.

Ethan dove behind a marble column.

Another shot.

Then another.

Fragments exploded from the walls.

Richard had finally revealed who he really was.

Not a businessman.

A criminal.

A desperate man protecting stolen wealth.

The battle for Ethan's family had begun.

And before sunrise, one of them would lose everything.
