Chapter 10 - A Future Full of Grace

Five years later, the Anderson family estate on the Gold Coast was no longer a silent, echoing mausoleum of grief and wealth.
It was a home.
On a bright Sunday morning, the sound of laughter echoed across the marble foyer and spilled out into the sunlit gardens. Pancakes sizzled on the kitchen stove—and true to the memory of Nathan, the first batch was slightly burned at the edges, a humorous tradition that Michael had gamely adopted and perfected over the years.
Caleb, now thirteen years old and standing nearly as tall as his mother, was busy explaining the mechanics of a new telescope to Michael while sitting at the kitchen island.
Grace stood in the doorway of the kitchen, leaning against the wooden frame with a mug of coffee in her hand, watching the two most important men in her life argue good-naturedly over star constellations.
The past was never truly forgotten; Nathan’s memory remained alive in the gentle cadence of Caleb’s smile and the framed photographs resting peacefully on the hallway shelves alongside new pictures of weddings, graduations, and family vacations.
Michael turned away from the telescope blueprint, catching Grace’s eye across the room. He walked over, wrapping his arms around her waist from behind and resting his chin comfortably on her shoulder, looking out at their son.
“What are you smiling about?” Michael whispered softly against her ear.
Grace leaned back into his embrace, taking a sip of her coffee, her heart overflowing with a deep, unbreakable peace.

“Just thinking about how a single, terrifying choice on a ballroom floor could lead us right here,” Grace murmured, turning her head to press a gentle kiss to his cheek.
Michael smiled, tightening his arms around her as the autumn sunlight poured through the kitchen windows, illuminating a future that was finally, beautifully safe.
