Chapter 8 - The Reunion at the Gates

Two months later, the airport terminal was bustling with the frantic energy of the early summer travel season. Thousands of passengers streamed through the automatic doors, rolling heavy luggage, chatting on phones, and rushing toward their respective boarding gates.

In the VIP lounge on the sixty-fourth floor, Arthur Sterling sat by the panoramic window, watching the endless dance of airplanes taking off and landing against the golden afternoon sun. The door chimed softly, and footsteps approached across the thick wool carpet.

"Arthur," a warm, familiar voice called out.

Arthur turned his head to see Daniel walking in, carrying a leather folio under one arm. But Daniel wasn't alone. Walking beside him was an elderly woman with silver hair tied in a neat bun, wearing a warm, radiant smile, and pushing a lightweight medical walker with steady, confident steps.

"Ah!" Arthur beamed, standing up from his armchair with surprising agility for his age. "Mrs. Reyes! It is an absolute honor to finally meet you in person."

Daniel's mother, Elena Reyes, stepped forward and extended a hand, her eyes shining with unshed tears of gratitude. "Mr. Sterling... I don't think words will ever be enough to express what you've done for my son—and for our family."

Arthur gently took her hand in both of his, shaking it warmly. "Please, Mrs. Reyes, call me Arthur. And you shouldn't thank me. I merely recognized a good man when I saw one. Your son saved my life, remember? I simply repaid a very small fraction of that debt."

Daniel smiled, watching his mother interact with the billionaire who had completely rewritten their destiny. Since that fateful evening at Gate 12, Elena's medical treatments had been fully covered, their financial struggles were a distant nightmare, and Daniel had officially reenrolled in his civil engineering classes while managing the terminal's infrastructure oversight with brilliant precision.

"How are your engineering classes going, son?" Arthur asked, gesturing for them to take a seat around the low mahogany coffee table.

"They're intense, sir," Daniel admitted, sitting beside his mother and accepting a cup of tea from the automated tray. "Balancing the oversight duties here at the airport with advanced structural mechanics isn't easy, but I'm maintaining top marks. In fact, I just submitted my midterm proposal for redesigning the terminal's passenger flow corridors to reduce congestion during peak holiday seasons."

Arthur’s eyes lit up with genuine delight. "Did you? And what did the lead engineers say?"

"They approved it unanimously yesterday morning," Daniel said with a proud grin. "Construction starts next month."
