Chapter 9 - Margaret’s Final Words

The ink on the parchment was slightly faded, written during the final autumn of her life before her illness took her strength, but her voice leaped off the page as clear as if she were sitting right beside me on the sofa.

“My dearest Elena,” it began.

*“If you are reading this letter, it means you have weathered the storm, uncovered the truth, and claimed your rightful place not just in this house, but in the world.

“For years, I watched your father and his siblings grow greedy, cold, and arrogant. I watched how they treated you—how they tried to diminish your light because your kindness and creativity didn't fit into their sterile, corporate mold. I stayed silent for a long time, watching and waiting, gathering the evidence of their undoing so that when the time came, they could never hurt you again.

“Live fiercely, love deeply, and never let anyone make you feel small again.

“With all my love,

Grandmother Margaret.”

A single tear slipped down my cheek, landing softly on the signature at the bottom of the page. But there was no sorrow in it—only a profound, overwhelming sense of gratitude and release.

I folded the letter carefully and placed it inside the leather ledger beside the true accounts of Weston Industries.

My past was reconciled. My future was secure.

I walked back to my study, opened my laptop, and stared at the blank page of my new book. The cursor blinked steadily, waiting for me to begin the next chapter.

I placed my fingers on the keyboard and started to type.

“Once upon a time, at the end of a forgotten lane called Birch Hollow Road, a girl was given a ruin. And from its ashes, she built an empire of her own...”
