Chapter 7 - The Interrogation and the Cleanup

Marcus made a sudden lunge for his sidearm, but Vince and two elite guards were already on him. Within seconds, Marcus was pinned facedown against the Persian rug, his weapon skittering across the polished floorboards. Dr. Aris Thorne had already collapsed into a chair, weeping softly and begging for mercy that would not come.
Dominic signaled to his men. "Take them to the lower level holding cells. Secure all communications. Every asset tied to Isabella and Marcus's faction is to be frozen by midnight."
As the guards hauled the struggling conspirators out of the room, the heavy oak doors clicked shut, leaving behind a profound, echoing quiet. The fire crackled in the hearth, throwing dancing shadows across the ceiling.
Lily was still standing near the doorway, holding Mr. Buttons tightly against her chest. She looked up at Dominic, her big eyes wide with a mixture of awe and residual fear. She didn't understand words like neurotoxin or syndicate council, but she knew the bad people had gone away.
Dominic exhaled a long, slow breath—the first truly unburdened breath he had taken in months. He walked over to the little girl and knelt down once more.
"Lily," he said gently, his deep voice softening entirely. "You saved my life."

Lily blinked, clutching the torn bear. "Is Mr. Buttons broken forever?"
Dominic smiled—a rare, genuine expression that transformed his rugged face. "No, sweetheart. We are going to find the best seamstress in the city, and we are going to make Mr. Buttons stronger than he ever was."
