Part 2: A Promise Written in Blood

Daniel's tiny voice barely reached the adults gathered around his bed.

“Papa…”

Gabriel Moretti was beside him before anyone could blink.

“I'm here, buddy. You're safe.”

The little boy's fingers curled weakly around his father's hand before he drifted back into unconsciousness.

For the first time in more than twenty years, Gabriel felt tears burn behind his eyes.

Behind him, Elena Cruz finally lowered the broken mop.

The adrenaline that had kept her standing disappeared all at once.

She collapsed.

Gabriel caught her before she hit the floor.

His expensive black suit was instantly stained with her blood.

“She's losing too much,” Vincent warned.

“Then save her.”

Gabriel's voice carried the weight of absolute command.

Within seconds, doctors and nurses rushed into Room 412 after security regained control of the hallway.

While surgeons prepared Daniel for emergency heart surgery, another team wheeled Elena toward the operating room.

A young nurse asked nervously,

“Sir... are you family?”

Gabriel looked at the unconscious woman.

“She is now.”

Hours later, hospital security footage finally revealed what had happened.

Two disguised men had entered Daniel's room posing as maintenance workers.

One disconnected the oxygen line.

The other lifted a pillow.

Before either could act, Elena had walked in pushing her cleaning cart.

She immediately realized something was wrong.

Instead of running, she grabbed her mop bucket and smashed it into the first attacker.

She was punched, kicked against the wall, and thrown across the room.

Still, she crawled back toward Daniel.

She used her own body to shield the child while swinging the broken mop handle until both attackers fled.

Every second she fought gave Daniel enough oxygen to survive.

The entire hospital staff watched the recording in stunned silence.

One elderly surgeon quietly removed his glasses.

“I've seen soldiers do less for strangers.”

The police arrested the attackers before sunrise.

During questioning, they confessed something even Gabriel had not expected.

They had never been hired to kill Daniel.

Their target had always been Gabriel.

Someone wanted the mafia boss to suffer by losing the only person he truly loved.

The mastermind was identified as Gabriel's former business partner, Marco Bellini, a man who had disappeared years earlier after stealing millions from the organization.

Bellini believed revenge would destroy Gabriel forever.

Instead, his plan had introduced Gabriel to the bravest person he had ever met.

Three days later, Elena finally woke up.

The room was filled with flowers.

More flowers than she had ever seen.

She frowned.

“I definitely can't afford these.”

A familiar voice answered.

“You don't have to.”

Gabriel stood beside the window.

He was no longer wearing an expensive suit but a simple gray sweater.

Without bodyguards.

Without weapons.

Without fear.

“You saved my son.”

Elena tried to sit up.

“You don't owe me anything.”

Gabriel shook his head.

“You're wrong.”

He placed a folder beside her bed.

Inside were documents showing that every medical bill had been paid.

Her apartment, which was months behind on rent, had been purchased anonymously.

There was also a scholarship fund established in the name of her late mother, who had dreamed of becoming a teacher.

Elena stared at him.

“I didn't save Daniel for money.”

“I know.”

“That is exactly why you deserve every bit of it.”

Meanwhile, Daniel's surgery was successful.

When he woke, the first question he asked made every doctor smile.

“Is the mop lady okay?”

Gabriel laughed softly.

“Yes.”

“Can she visit me?”

“She'll probably tell me not to touch the machines again.”

Daniel smiled.

“I like her.”

“So do I.”

For the first time since his wife had died years earlier, Gabriel felt something inside him changing.

Fear had built his empire.

But one ordinary woman with a broken mop had reminded him that courage looked very different.

And much stronger.
