Part 8: The Breach of the Gates and the Collapse of Lies

A low, rhythmic rumble vibrated through the foundation of the estate—not the sound of breaking doors, but the unmistakable roar of heavy diesel engines pulling up to the outer gates.
Vincent’s head snapped toward the front entrance. "What is that?" he barked at his guards.
Before the men could turn to check, the massive reinforced iron gates at the front of the estate blew inward with a deafening explosion of sparks and twisted metal. Headlights from half a dozen black SUV vehicles flooded the grand foyer, washing the room in blinding white light.
Cosimo stepped out from the lead vehicle, a tactical shotgun braced against his shoulder, flanked by a dozen of our most loyal enforcers who had remained outside the compromised internal network.
"You left the back door open, Uncle," I shouted down from the balcony, the barrel of my Sig Sauer locked dead on Vincent’s forehead.
Vincent’s face drained of color. The mask of calm superiority shattered completely, revealing the desperate, cornered coward beneath. He lunged backward, grabbing his silver cane and trying to use one of his guards as a human shield.
"Kill him! Kill them all!" Vincent shrieked, panic cracking his voice.
It was too late.
Before his guards could raise their weapons, Cosimo and the loyalists opened fire with precise, suppressing volleys. The sound of gunfire crashed through the marble hall, short and devastatingly effective. Vincent’s four men dropped their weapons as non-lethal leg shots and shoulder hits neutralized them instantly, sending them crashing to the floor.
Vincent stumbled, his bad knee buckling beneath him as he tried to scramble toward the service stairs.
I vaulted over the balcony railing, dropping ten feet to the ground floor with a hard, jarring thud. I didn't feel the pain in my ankles. I walked across the polished marble, following the trail of blood and terror right to where Vincent had collapsed against the base of the staircase—inches from the exact spot where Isabella had died.
I stood over him, looking down into the terrified eyes of the man who had betrayed every oath, every drop of blood, every year of my life.
Vincent raised trembling hands, clutching his silver cane like a pathetic talisman. "Lorenzo... wait... we're family. Think of all we built together..."
"You built a house of lies on top of my wife's grave," I said, my voice dead, flat, and absolute.

I didn't pull the trigger. Death was too quick for him. Instead, I kicked the silver cane out of his grip, sent it clattering across the marble floor, and signaled for Cosimo to drag him away to the lower holding cells.
The nightmare was over. The ghost had been unmasked.
