Chapter 10 - The Legacy of Light

Ten years later.

The grand ballroom of the New York Plaza Hotel was filled with light, music, and the low chatter of the city’s elite. It was the annual gala for the Romano Foundation, an event that raised millions of dollars every year to support youth shelters and education programs across the country.

At the center table sat Sylvio Romano.

At seventy-three, his hair was entirely silver, and he used a cane with a polished silver handle to walk, but his eyes were as sharp and clear as ever. Beside him sat Vincent Caruso, now grey-haired but still fiercely loyal, looking proud in his formal tuxedo.

A hush fell over the room as the announcer stepped to the microphone.

"And now, please welcome the President and founder of the Romano Foundation, Miss Luna Romano."

The room erupted into applause.

From the side of the stage, a young woman stepped forward. She was nineteen years old, tall, elegant, and breathtakingly beautiful. Her long black hair was styled in soft waves, and her dark eyes shone with intelligence and warmth. She wore a stunning emerald green gown, and around her neck, hanging elegantly over her collarbone, was a familiar silver medallion of St. Jude.

She walked to the podium, her poise and confidence reminding everyone of the man who had raised her.

"Thank you, everyone," Luna began, her voice clear and resonant, echoing through the grand ballroom. "Ten years ago, I was a child sleeping under a bridge in this very city. I was cold, I was hungry, and to most of the world, I was invisible."

She looked directly at the table where Sylvio sat. Her eyes softened with deep, boundless affection.

"But one man chose to see me. He didn't just give me a warm coat or a plate of food. He gave me a home. He gave me a family. He showed me that no matter how dark the world can be, there is always room for mercy, for love, and for hope."

She raised her glass. "To my father, Sylvio Romano. The man who taught me that true power is not the ability to hurt, but the power to protect."

The entire ballroom stood up, raising their glasses in a massive, standing ovation.

Sylvio sat at his table, tears finally spilling over his aged cheeks. He didn't wipe them away. He didn't care who saw them. He raised his glass to his daughter, his heart overflowing with a peace he had never thought possible.

The street child and the mafia boss.

Two broken lives, brought together by a plate of poison, had built a legacy of light that would warm the city for generations to come.

As Luna smiled at him from the stage, Sylvio knew that the storm was finally over.

They were home.
