Chapter 8 - The Ultimate Choice

The next morning, Raj received an urgent call from Amit in Mumbai.

"Sir," Amit’s voice was tense. "Your brother, Dev, has filed an injunction in court. He is claiming that you are using company funds to secure private land in Uttarakhand for personal use. He has also leaked the story of the 'miracle cure' to the international media. There are reporters already heading your way. They want to find Mira."

Raj’s jaw tightened. "How did they get the location?"

"One of the local guides must have talked, sir. You need to return to Mumbai. If you are not here to defend your position at the board meeting on Friday, Dev might have enough votes to oust you as Chairman."

Raj looked out the window. Arav was outside, learning how to milk a goat with Rahul, his laughter carrying on the clean morning breeze. Mira was nearby, hanging washed clothes on a line, her hair blowing gently in the wind.

He had a choice to make. The global empire he had spent his entire life building, the wealth and power that defined his identity—or the simple, peaceful life he had discovered in these mountains.

"Amit," Raj said quietly.

"Yes, sir?"

"Prepare the board meeting documents. I will be there on Friday. But not to fight Dev."

"Sir?" Amit asked, confused.

"Just do as I say, Amit. I will handle this."

Raj walked out to the porch and called Mira over. He explained the situation to her, his voice calm but serious.

"They are coming, Mira. The media, the corporate lawyers... they want to turn your miracle into a product. They want to turn this valley into a laboratory."

Mira’s face fell. "What should we do, Raj? I don't want to lose this place."

"We won't," Raj said, taking her hands in his. "But we have to fight them on their own turf. I need to go back to Mumbai. I want you and Arav to stay here, where it is safe, under the protection of my security team. I will handle the storm in the city, and then I will return."

Mira looked into his eyes, seeing the strength and the absolute devotion of the man before her. "No," she said firmly.

Raj blinked in surprise. "No?"

"I am coming with you," Mira said, her eyes shining with determination. "My grandmother taught me that you cannot run from a storm. You must stand like a mountain and let the wind blow past. This is my legacy, and Arav is my family now too. I won't let you fight this alone."

Raj felt a wave of emotion wash over him. He pulled her into a brief, fierce hug. "Then we will fight them together."

They returned to Mumbai the next day. The city was hot, humid, and bustling, a stark contrast to the quiet beauty of the mountains. As their cars pulled up to the Malhotra mansion, a crowd of reporters and photographers flashed their cameras, clamoring for a statement.

Raj’s security team cleared a path, and Raj walked into his home, holding Arav’s hand on one side, and Mira’s on the other. He was no longer hiding her. He was showing the world that she was by his side.
