Chapter 8

The reception unfolded on the expansive stone terrace as the golden afternoon sun began to dip toward the horizon, casting a warm, amber glow across the Long Island Sound.
Long tables decorated with flickering candles, lush greenery, and blooming hydrangeas seated the guests comfortably. Laughter and conversation drifted through the warm summer air, accompanied by the gentle clinking of crystal glasses filled with vintage champagne.
During the dinner, Daniel stood up, tapping his glass gently with a silver spoon to get everyone's attention.
The chatter died down instantly as all eyes turned to the groom. Daniel looked relaxed, his arm resting gently around Rosa’s shoulders as she smiled up at him with affectionate curiosity.
“Thank you all for being here today,” Daniel began, his voice warm and resonant carrying across the terrace. “Many of you know me as a businessman, a CEO, someone who measures success in quarterly reports, market shares, and medical breakthroughs.”
He paused, looking down lovingly at Rosa.
“For a long time, I thought surviving cancer meant I had beaten the odds. I thought my survival was a medical triumph, a victory of science and cellular biology. But over these past few months, living alongside the woman who saved my life—not just in a hospital room eleven years ago, but every single day in this home—I realized something much deeper.”
The guests listened in rapt attention, completely captivated.
“Science gave me back my pulse,” Daniel continued, his voice steady and full of emotion. “But Rosa gave me back my soul. She taught me what it truly means to live, to laugh, and to love without reservation. And today, surrounded by our children, our dearest friends, and the quiet beauty of this home, I want the world to know that the greatest achievement of my life isn't Hayes Medical Systems or any corporate empire. It’s the woman sitting right beside me.”
He raised his champagne glass toward her. “To my wife, my hero, and my forever. To Rosa.”
“To Rosa!” the guests echoed warmly, raising their glasses in unison.
Rosa felt tears of pure happiness prick at the corners of her eyes. She leaned over and pressed a soft kiss to Daniel’s cheek, whispering, “I love you.”
“I love you too,” Daniel smiled, kissing the top of her head.
As the sun sank lower, painting the sky in shades of violet and gold, the music shifted to a slower, romantic melody. Daniel took Rosa by the hand, leading her out to the center of the terrace for their first dance as husband and wife.
As they swayed gently to the music, surrounded by twinkling fairy lights strung through the weeping willow branches, Rosa rested her head against Daniel’s chest.
Beneath the fabric of his tailored suit, she could hear it—the steady, rhythmic, powerful beat of a healthy heart.
