Chapter 9 - The Final Verdict

In one swift, fluid motion, Graham stepped directly between David and Ellie, blocking the man completely from view.
“Touch her, and I will personally ensure you spend the next ten years of your life defending yourself in federal court for wire fraud, tax evasion, and extortion,” Graham said. His voice wasn't loud; it was chillingly quiet, carrying the absolute weight of a man who owned entire zip codes and possessed the legal artillery to crush an insect without blinking.
David froze, his hand hanging awkwardly in mid-air. He looked into Graham’s eyes and saw something terrifying—not anger, but cold, unbreakable resolve.
“You... you can't do that,” David stammered, his bravado instantly evaporating. “I have legal rights! I’m going to call my lawyer!”
“Please do,” Graham invited smoothly, pulling his smartphone from his pocket. “In the meantime, my security team will escort you and your companion off the property. If you ever come within five miles of this estate, Hannah, or Ellie again, my legal team won't just sue you—they will dismantle every asset you’ve ever touched down to the last paperclip.”
He turned to the two security guards. “Show them out. Now.”
Before David could utter another word, the two massive guards grabbed him firmly by the arms and dragged him toward the heavy front doors, ignoring his sputtering protests and empty threats. His new wife hurried nervously behind them, practically running out the door.
The heavy oak doors slammed shut with a resounding thud.
The mansion fell utterly silent.
Hannah sank down onto the bottom step of the grand staircase, burying her face in her hands as silent, trembling sobs wracked her body. All the stress, fear, and trauma of the past three years poured out of her in a wave of emotional release.
Graham didn't hesitate.
He knelt down on the marble floor right in front of her, exactly as he had knelt weeks ago for Ellie.
He gently placed his hands over hers, pulling them away from her face.
“Hannah,” he whispered softly. “Look at me.”
Hannah looked up, her eyes red and swimming with tears. “He’s going to sue us, Graham. He’s going to make our lives a living hell. I shouldn't have brought this trouble to your door—”
“Listen to me,” Graham interrupted, his voice fierce and tender all at once. “He is never coming back. My lawyers are already filing a permanent restraining order and a forfeiture of all parental rights based on abandonment and harassment. He doesn't have a leg to stand on.”
Hannah stared at him, the overwhelming relief washing over her like a warm wave. “How can I ever thank you?” she whispered.
Before Graham could answer, a pair of small arms wrapped tightly around his neck from behind.
Ellie climbed onto his back, pressing her cheek against his shoulder.
“You don't have to say thank you, Mommy,” Ellie whispered into Graham’s ear. “Mr. Graham is our family now. He has the magic dinosaur Band-Aid.”

Graham felt a lump rise in his throat. He reached back, wrapping his arms around the little girl, and pulled Hannah into his embrace as well.
For the first time in his life, the billionaire didn't feel lonely at all.
