Chapter 10 - A New Legacy

Five years later, the snow fell thick and heavy over Chicago once again, burying the streets in a blanket of pristine white.
Inside the penthouse suite overlooking the glittering city skyline, the radiator hummed softly, filling the warm room with the scent of freshly baked cinnamon rolls and hot cocoa.
I sat at my mahogany desk, reviewing the annual audit for Callaway Holdings, which now spanned three states with legitimate investments in real estate, upscale dining, and tech logistics. The empire had grown, cleaned of its darker shadows, transformed by strategy, legitimacy, and an unyielding commitment to excellence.
Heavy footsteps echoed down the hallway, followed by delighted squeals of laughter.
The door burst open, and seven-year-old Ava rushed into the room, holding a snow-covered drawing of a smiling family.
“Mommy, look! Daddy and I built a giant snowman on the terrace, and it looks just like Tommy!” she announced excitedly, her dark eyes—the exact replica of mine—sparkling with mischief.
I laughed, setting down my pen as Reed walked into the office behind her, brushing snowflakes off the shoulders of his cashmere coat, looking as devastatingly handsome as the day I first met him in the supply room.
Reed walked over to my desk, kissed the top of my head, and then leaned down to scoop Ava up into his arms, tossing her gently into the air as she giggled uncontrollably.
He looked across the room at me, a warm, affectionate smile softening his sharp features.

“Dinner’s ready downstairs, Mrs. Callaway,” Reed said, his voice as rich and comforting as the life we had built together. “And this time, no sneaking around required.”
I smiled, standing up to join my husband and our daughter, knowing that no matter how cold the winter storms outside might blow, our home would always be filled with warmth, safety, and an enduring, fiercely protected love.
