Chapter 7 - The Boardroom Confrontation

Twenty-four hours later, the top floor of the Reed Shore Development building buzzed with tense energy.

The grand boardroom featured floor-to-ceiling glass windows overlooking the snow-covered expanse of Harbor Point. Around the massive mahogany table sat twelve members of the city's elite development board, including Harrison Croft—a tall, silver-haired man in a bespoke three-piece suit who carried himself with the arrogance of inherited wealth.

"This emergency meeting is absurd, Calder," Croft said, tossing his leather folder onto the table. "We were supposed to vote on the zoning permits for the Waterfront Luxury Towers today. Why are we wasting time with a sudden review of your Harbor Row project?"

Calder sat at the head of the table, entirely calm, a single thick Manila folder resting in front of him.

"We aren't discussing Harbor Row today, Harrison," Calder said smoothly. "We're discussing Crestview Enterprises."

Croft's face stiffened slightly, though he quickly recovered his cold composure. "What does my brother's private investment firm have to do with this board?"

Calder opened the folder. He pulled out a stack of high-resolution photographs and slid them across the polished mahogany table.

The images showed the scorched basement of Atlantic Industrial Wash, the rusted, leaking steam pipes, the locked emergency exits, and the handwritten cash ledger detailing illegal wage suppression.

The other board members picked up the photos, whispering in shock.

"This is outrageous," Croft snapped, standing up from his chair. "This is an unverified, smear campaign against an independent company! You have no right—"

"I have the complete digital records from the server on Pier 14," Calder interrupted, his voice dropping into a razor-sharp register that silenced the entire room. "I have the OSHA inspection reports that your brother bribed inspectors to bury. I have the medical records of Elena Vance, a mother of two who suffered second-degree burns because your company refused to replace a three-hundred-dollar safety valve."

Croft sneered, leaning over the table. "Do you think you can intimidate me with a few low-wage workers, Reed? This is development! Progress requires friction. People like that are replaceable. Your father understood that. He built this city on harsh realities while you sit here playing savior!"

Calder slowly stood up. He towered over Croft, his presence radiating an overwhelming, quiet authority.

"My father built monuments to his own vanity," Calder said coldly. "I am building a city."

Calder pressed a button on the intercom at the center of the table. "Marcus, bring them in."

The heavy oak doors of the boardroom opened.

Marcus walked into the room, followed by the city's District Attorney, two federal workplace safety investigators, and three officers from the police financial crimes division.

Croft's face drained of all color.

"Harrison Croft," the District Attorney announced, stepping forward with an arrest warrant. "You and your brother Arthur are being charged with corporate fraud, severe labor violations, reckless endangerment, and obstruction of justice."

As the officers stepped forward and placed handcuffs around Croft's wrists, the silver-haired mogul glared at Calder with pure hatred. "You're destroying your own class, Reed! The business community will destroy you for this! Harbor Row will never get funded!"

Calder looked at Croft with utter indifference as the officers led him away.

"I don't need their funding, Harrison," Calder said softly. "I'm funding it myself."
