Chapter 3 - Unraveling the Web of Deceit

Inside the high-tech security room of the Falcone mansion, monitors flickered with live feeds from dozens of cameras. Victor Vance stood behind the primary technician, watching the playback from the rainy evening.
"Slow it down right here," Victor commanded, pointing at a timestamp corresponding to forty-five minutes before Lucia found the baby.
The grainy night-vision footage showed the service corridor leading to the back kitchens. The hallway was normally deserted at that hour. However, at 8:14 PM, a figure wrapped in a heavy dark raincoat emerged from the private elevator—an elevator that only connected the upper residential suites to the secure underground parking and the kitchen service level.
"Enhance the image on the doorway," Victor muttered.
The technician typed furiously, sharpening the pixels. The figure in the raincoat paused, looking around nervously before setting a small, cream-colored bundle down right beside the large metal industrial trash bins. Even with the hood pulled low, a distinctive diamond-encrusted bracelet flashed under the dim corridor lights on the intruder's wrist.
Victor’s breath caught in his throat. He knew that bracelet. It was a custom piece he had seen only on one person: Isabella Cross’s personal assistant, Elena Vance—ironically, no relation to Victor, but deeply loyal to Isabella.
Before Victor could call Marcus, the secure door to the security room hissed open. Isabella stood in the doorway, looking impeccably groomed despite the late hour, holding a tray with a cup of black coffee.
"Working hard, Victor?" she asked smoothly, stepping further into the room than protocol allowed. Her eyes darted toward the monitor screens.
"Just reviewing the perimeter logs, Mrs. Cross," Victor said, casually placing his hand over the keyboard to block her view of the frozen frame showing the raincoat figure.
"You know, Marcus is letting his emotions cloud his judgment," Isabella said, setting the coffee tray down on the desk dangerously close to Victor's equipment. "A newborn baby appearing out of nowhere is clearly a setup by our rivals, the Moretti family, trying to destabilize us from within. We should dispose of the child quietly before it causes a panic."

Victor looked directly into Isabella's eyes, seeing a chilling lack of empathy. "Dispose of the child, Mrs. Cross? That is a human life, and possibly the boss's blood."
Isabella's smile faded, replaced by a hard, calculating gaze. "Sometimes, Victor, sacrifices must be made for the greater good of the Falcone empire. And loyalty means knowing when to follow orders without asking questions."
