Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

Six months later, on a sun-drenched cliffside overlooking the sparkling turquoise waters of the Amalfi Coast in Italy, a gentle breeze rustled through the sprawling olive groves surrounding a whitewashed villa.
On the stone patio, six-year-old Chloe was laughing brightly as she chased a small golden retriever puppy across the manicured lawn, her arm completely healed, leaving behind only a faint, silvery trace that she proudly called her "superhero scar."
Marisol sat at a wrought-iron table under the shade of a lemon tree, sipping a glass of iced tea as she watched her daughter play. The dark, exhaustion-filled shadows under her eyes were completely gone, replaced by a radiant, peaceful glow she hadn't felt in a decade.
Footsteps crunched softly on the gravel pathway behind her.
Marisol didn't need to turn around to know who it was.
Roman walked up, wearing a simple linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up, carrying a fresh pitcher of lemonade. He wasn't wearing a custom black suit or a tactical vest. He looked like a man who finally belonged to the world, rather than a warzone.
"She's going to wear that puppy out before lunch," Marisol said with a soft smile, looking up as Roman set the pitcher down on the table.
"Let her," Roman replied, pulling out the chair opposite her and sitting down. "Energy is a good thing."
He poured a glass of lemonade and slid it across the table toward her. For a moment, the two of them sat in comfortable, easy silence, listening to the distant crash of the waves against the rocky shore below.
"You know you don't have to stay here forever, Roman," Marisol said gently, her brown eyes meeting his. "Your empire is back in New York. The boardrooms, the real estate portfolios... they need you."
Roman took a slow sip of his drink, shaking his head.
"Let them run themselves," Roman said, a peaceful smile touching his lips. "I spent my whole life building walls and collecting debts, Marisol. I finally realized something important."
"What's that?"
"Some debts aren't meant to be paid in blood," Roman said softly, looking over toward where Chloe was now weaving flowers into a yellow ribbon. "Some debts are paid in peace."
Marisol’s smile widened, a quiet tear of pure happiness slipping down her cheek as she reached across the table.
May you like
Roman took her hand in his, his grip warm, steady, and entirely free of shadows.
And for the first time in their lives, under the warm Italian sun, the ghosts of Queens were finally at rest.
