Chapter 10 - The Light We Found

The wedding was small, intimate, and held in the garden of their new home overlooking Lake Michigan. There were no corporate executives, no media outlets, and no lavish high-society spectacles. Only close friends, Dr. Vance, and the people who truly cared about the Whitman family’s journey.
Sarah wore a simple, elegant ivory dress, her hair decorated with delicate white flowers. Emily served as the maid of honor, looking proud and beautiful in a soft blue dress, carrying a basket of rose petals, while Alex served as the world’s most enthusiastic ring bearer, running down the aisle with a wide grin.
As Richard stood at the altar, watching Sarah walk down the green aisle toward him holding Emily’s hand, he felt a wave of profound emotion wash over him.
He thought back to the man he used to be—a man who chased money, prestige, and corporate success, believing that wealth was the answer to all of life's problems. He thought about the terrible mistake he had made by inviting darkness into his home, and how close he had come to losing everything that truly mattered.
When Sarah reached the altar, Richard took her hands in his.
They exchanged simple, beautiful vows, promising to honor, protect, and cherish each other and their family through every season of life.
When the minister pronounced them husband and wife, Richard pulled Sarah close and kissed her, surrounded by the warm applause of their loved ones and the gentle rustle of the lake breeze.
Later that evening, as the sun began to set over Lake Michigan, painting the sky in brilliant hues of orange, pink, and gold, the family gathered on the back porch.
Alex was fast asleep in Sarah’s arms, exhausted from a long day of playing. Richard sat beside Sarah on the porch swing, his arm wrapped securely around her shoulders. Emily was sitting on the wooden steps, holding a sketchbook, drawing the sunset.
Emily closed her book, walked up the steps, and leaned against Richard’s leg.
Richard reached down, pulling his daughter up into his lap, wrapping his other arm around her.
“Look at that sky, Emily,” Richard whispered, pointing toward the vibrant horizon where the golden sun touched the water. “Isn't it beautiful?”
Emily rested her head against her father’s chest, listening to the steady, comforting beat of his heart—the same heart that had fought for her, protected her, and stayed by her side.

“It’s beautiful, Daddy,” Emily whispered softly, looking over at Sarah, who smiled back at her with boundless love. “It’s not dark anymore.”
Richard kissed the top of his daughter’s head, looking out over the vast, peaceful lake. The shadows of their past were finally gone, replaced by the permanent, unshakeable light of a family built on truth, protection, and unconditional love.
