Chapter 10 - Happily Ever After

The sun sank lower on the horizon, painting the sky in breathtaking strokes of gold, magenta, and deep indigo.

Inside the house, the smell of dinner drifted from the kitchen—a simple, comforting meal prepared together, shared with laughter and quiet conversations about the day.

Lucas came running up the steps, his face flushed with excitement, clutching a muddy pinecone he insisted was a rare treasure.

Daniel scooped him up into his arms, tossing him gently into the air as the boy giggled with unbridled joy, before handing him over to Rachel, who scooped him into a warm, fierce hug.

“Time to wash up for dinner, my little explorer,” Rachel said, kissing his cheek.

Lucas nodded sleepily, resting his head against her shoulder as she carried him inside.

Daniel lingered on the porch for just a moment longer, looking out at the peaceful neighborhood and the bright evening star beginning to twinkle in the dusk sky. He felt a profound sense of peace settle deep into his bones.
