Chapter 10 - Home, Forever

Later that night, long after the ballroom had emptied and the champagne glasses had been cleared away, our car pulled quietly into the driveway of our suburban home.

The house looked breathtaking under the silver glow of a summer moon. The hydrangeas Sophie had planted were in full bloom, spilling soft waves of color across the front porch.

Noah and Sophie scampered inside ahead of us, chatting excitedly about the evening's events and the incredible amount of donations the foundation had raised.

I lingered for a moment on the front porch, the very spot where Richard had once stood with his brass key and his empty threats, trying to banish us into the cold.

I reached out and touched the smooth brass handle of the front door. It wasn't locked. It never would be locked against us again.

The front door swung open effortlessly, welcoming us into the warmth and light of the home Mark had built for us—a home secured not by walls or corporate intimidation, but by an enduring love that time and hardship could never erode.

I stepped inside, closed the door gently behind me, and smiled into the quiet night.

We had finally won. We were home, forever.
