Chapter 10 - Happily Ever After

Life, in all its complexity, never truly stops moving. But when your foundation is built on truth, mutual respect, and unconditional love, the storms of the world can only ever wash away what was never meant to stay.
David drifted completely out of our lives over the years. We heard through the family grapevine that he had eventually moved to another city, hopping from job to job, forever blaming everyone else for the wreckage of his own choices. He never reached out for visitation again, realizing perhaps that he had nothing left to offer a child who had already learned what true, unwavering paternal love looked like.
And Clara thrived. She grew into a fiercely intelligent, confident, and deeply compassionate young girl who knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that her voice mattered. Whenever she sat at our dining table—right in the center, surrounded by laughter, good food, and people who adored her—she would sometimes look at the back door and smile to herself, a private acknowledgment of a past she had survived and a future she owned.
As for Julian and me, our partnership only deepened with time. Together, we expanded our architectural firm, designing spaces that prioritized light, community, and emotional safety—homes built not just to impress the eye, but to shelter the heart.
On quiet evenings, after the children were asleep and the house had settled into its peaceful nocturnal rhythm, Julian and I would sit out on the deck under the canopy of fairy lights, holding hands and watching the stars.
