Chapter 10 - FOREVER VALE

Ten years after that fateful Sunday morning in Central Park, the Vale estate was celebrating a very different kind of milestone.
The sprawling lawns were decorated with white fairy lights strung through the ancient oak trees, and soft acoustic music drifted across the garden. A marquee tent had been set up near the terrace, filled with close friends, trusted colleagues like Julian Mercer—now comfortably retired and acting as a doting honorary grandfather—and a few hundred invited guests from the community foundation.
Today was Madeline's and my tenth wedding anniversary.
Well, technically, our second wedding—we had quietly renewed our vows in a private ceremony five years prior, but tonight was the celebration we had never been allowed to have a decade ago when our lives were torn apart.
Leo was fourteen now, standing tall with the same deep knuckle dimples and sharp intellect that marked him as a true Vale, currently practicing a speech he was terrified of delivering. Toby, twelve, was busy sneaking extra slices of chocolate anniversary cake with his sister Maya, who at ten was a brilliant, artistic dynamo sketching caricatures of the guests in her sketchbook.
I stood in front of the full-length mirror in my study, adjusting my black silk bowtie, taking a slow breath as I looked at my reflection. At forty-eight, there were a few silver strands at my temples, but the exhaustion and hollow drive that had defined my thirties were entirely gone.
The door clicked open, and Madeline stepped into the room.
My breath caught in my throat, just as it had the first time I ever saw her in that tiny Queens studio. She wore a stunning, elegant ivory lace gown that flowed softly around her graceful frame. Her dark hair was swept up with a few soft tendrils framing her face, and her dark brown eyes shone with happiness.
"You look..." I started, walking toward her, completely lost for words. "Madeline, you look breathtaking."
She smiled, stepping into my arms as I wrapped my hands gently around her waist. "You clean up pretty well yourself, Mr. Vale."
"Ten years," I whispered, resting my forehead against hers. "Ten years since I found you under that oak tree."
"Ten years since you gave me my life back," she corrected softly, lifting her hands to cup my face. "And you've kept every single promise you made that day, Arthur."
"And I'll keep them for a hundred more," I promised.
Downstairs, Julian Mercer tapped gently on a glass microphone, calling the guests' attention toward the patio.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Julian's warm, booming voice echoed across the lawn. "If I could have everyone's attention. To honor our host and hostess—a couple whose love survived the coldest winters and built an empire of true heart—let's welcome Arthur and Madeline Vale."
The applause rose like a warm wave through the garden.
I offered my arm to Madeline, and together, we walked out of the study, down the grand staircase, and out into the brilliant, starlit night.

As we stepped onto the lawn surrounded by our children, our friends, and a legacy built not on corporate greed, but on unconditional love and unbreakable family bonds, I knew the story of our lives had the only ending that ever truly mattered.
A happily ever after, carved in stone and sealed in love, forever.
