Chapter 10 - Happily Ever After

Years rolled by like gentle waves against a steady shore, bringing with them the quiet beauty of ordinary days and extraordinary healing.

Our cottage by the hills became a sanctuary of laughter, art, and unconditional love. The walls were adorned with Eli’s award-winning science fair projects, my own vibrant watercolor paintings of nature, and countless framed photographs of June growing up into a fierce, intelligent, and joyful young girl who took no nonsense from anyone—least of all her older brother.

Eli grew into a kind, grounded young man who decided to study criminal justice in college, driven by a deep-seated desire to protect the vulnerable and ensure that justice always prevailed. Whenever people asked him why he chose that path, he would simply smile and say, “I learned early on that you always have to speak up for what’s right, no matter how hard it is.”

As for me, I found peace in the classroom teaching young artists to see the beauty in every stroke, and comfort in the quiet evenings watching the sun set over the hills with my children by my side.

We had survived the worst storm imaginable, and in doing so, we discovered an unbreakable bond that no betrayal could ever fracture. The past was a closed book, its pages sealed away forever, while our future stretched out before us—bright, limitless, and filled with a happily ever after we had fought tooth and nail to secure.
