Chapter 10 - The Happily Ever After

The gallery evening ended with warmth, laughter, and a framed ribbon hanging proudly beneath Noah’s superhero painting: First Place - Community Choice.
My mother spent twenty minutes talking with Noah, listening intently as he explained every detail of his artwork. There were no demands, no gaslighting, and no excuses made for anyone else's bad behavior. Just a grandmother and a grandson sharing a quiet, genuine moment of pride.
When the gallery closed and the other families drifted out into the crisp autumn night, Noah, Mom, and I walked out together under the amber streetlights.
Mom walked us to our car, kissed Noah on the cheek, and gave me a long, lingering hug.
"I'll call you next week," she said softly.
"Drive safe, Mom," I replied, opening the car door for Noah.
As we pulled out of the parking lot and drove down the quiet suburban streets toward home, the dashboard clock glowed softly in the dark.
