Chapter 6 - The Counter-Strike

While Sarah was getting herself permanently banned from Daniel's workplace, Michael and I were sitting at the kitchen island reviewing documents with Marcus, the family law attorney. Marcus had brought a thick leather briefcase filled with paperwork, financial audits, and legal notices.
"She’s escalating," Marcus said, laying out a series of printed emails across the marble counter. "Which is entirely predictable. When narcissistic personalities lose control, they test every boundary to see where the system will break."
"What did she do now?" I asked, looking down at the papers.
"She filed an emergency petition with local child protective services," Marcus said calmly. "Using a pseudonym, of course, but the IP address and phrasing trace directly back to her home computer. She claimed that Emma is living in an 'environment of neglect and emotional instability' under your roof."
My stomach dropped. Even though I knew it was a malicious lie, hearing that someone was weaponizing child welfare services against my daughter made my blood run cold.
Michael slammed his coffee mug down onto the counter, coffee sloshing over the rim. "That manipulative witch. She's crossing every line of decency."
"Don't worry," Marcus held up a reassuring hand. "We anticipated this exact move. The moment Sarah pulled that stunt with the pet collar on camera, Michael forwarded the entire security archive to my office. We already submitted the video footage, the text messages, and the store receipt to the social services investigator an hour ago, along with a preemptive legal affidavit proving malice."
Daniel walked through the front door just then, looking tired but resolute. He tossed his keys onto the counter and kissed the top of my head before grabbing a glass of water.
"Guess who just got escorted out of my office building by security?" Daniel asked dryly.
Michael raised an eyebrow. "Your mother?"
"In the flesh," Daniel sighed. "She tried to convince my managing partner that I was running an unstable compound. Robert had her tossed out onto the street before she could even finish her speech."
Marcus chuckled, flipping a page in his legal pad. "Well, that actually works in our favor. Between her trespassing at Daniel's office, the malicious CPS report, and the documented harassment, we now have enough grounds not only for Michael's swift divorce on the grounds of extreme cruelty, but also for a permanent restraining order protecting all four of us."
"Can we file it today?" Daniel asked.
"It's already drafted," Marcus said, tapping the binder. "I just need your signatures. Once the judge signs this restraining order, if Sarah comes within five hundred feet of this house, Daniel, or Emma, she goes straight to jail. No warnings. No second chances."
We all signed without hesitation.

By mid-afternoon, the official legal documents were processed and served. A county sheriff's deputy personally delivered the restraining order to Sarah at her home, alongside Michael's formal divorce petition and a notice of asset freeze.
The woman who had spent decades reigning over her family through fear and intimidation suddenly found herself completely cornered by the very legal system she thought she could manipulate.
