Chapter 10 - The Warmth of Home

The sun dipped entirely below the horizon, leaving behind a glowing twilight that illuminated the quiet streets of our neighborhood.

As we walked up the steps to our apartment building, I held the door open for Emma. She stepped inside first, holding the door for me with a bright, welcoming grin.

“Home sweet home,” she declared.

Inside, the apartment was waiting for us, bathed in the soft, golden glow of fairy lights. Barnaby the kitten trotted down the hallway to greet us, letting out a cheerful meow and rubbing against Emma’s ankles.

Emma scooped the fluffy orange cat into her arms, burying her face in his fur and laughing.

There were no more secrets, no more dismissed pain, and no more hiding in fear. There was only family, growth, and the unbreakable bond of two sisters who had conquered the dark together.

Emma walked into the living room, placed Barnaby gently on the sofa, and looked over at me with eyes full of absolute peace.

“Always,” I replied, walking over to join her in the heart of our home.
