Part 2: The Phone Call That Destroyed His Illusion

Three hours after Daniel abandoned me, his phone rang while he and Vanessa were celebrating in the luxury penthouse he had rented with stolen company money.
He answered without looking at the screen.
"If this is about the baby, tell Olivia I'll deal with it tomorrow."
A calm voice interrupted him.
"Mr. Hale? This is St. Mary's Medical Center. Your wife has undergone an emergency cesarean section."
Daniel rolled his eyes.
"So?"
There was a brief silence.
"The surgery was extremely high risk. Before entering the operating room, Mrs. Hale executed new legal directives in the presence of witnesses."
His expression stiffened.
"What directives?"
"She revoked every medical authorization naming you as next of kin."
Vanessa frowned.
The administrator continued.
"She also filed notarized corporate emergency documents with her attorney."
Daniel stood up.
"...What documents?"
"I'm not authorized to discuss corporate matters. However, our legal department was instructed to notify you that all future inquiries should be directed through Mrs. Hale's attorneys."
The call ended.
Daniel immediately dialed Olivia.
Straight to voicemail.
Again.
Nothing.
Vanessa laughed nervously.
"She's bluffing."
But Daniel's stomach tightened.
For the first time that night...
He wasn't certain.
The following morning, Daniel arrived at Hale Medical Logistics expecting another ordinary board meeting.
Instead, security guards stopped him in the lobby.
"I'm CEO."
One guard remained polite.
"Not anymore, sir."
Daniel frowned.
"What?"
The head of Human Resources walked over carrying a sealed envelope.
"Effective 6:15 a.m., the Board of Directors voted unanimously to suspend your executive authority pending investigation."
Daniel snatched the letter.
"This is illegal!"
"No."
The board chairman stepped from the elevator.
"It's perfectly legal."
Every board member stood behind him.
No smiles.
No sympathy.
The chairman folded his hands.
"Yesterday evening, Olivia submitted evidence showing unauthorized financial transfers totaling nearly four hundred thousand dollars."
Daniel's face drained.
"Those were approved."
"Were they?"
The chairman slid printed bank records across the reception desk.
Every transfer.
Every forged signature.
Every altered authorization.
Every deleted email.
Recovered.
Timestamped.
Verified.
Daniel looked around desperately.
"You can't prove I forged anything."
The chairman answered quietly.
"Actually..."
He pressed a remote.
The lobby monitors lit up.
Security footage appeared.
Daniel entering Olivia's office after hours.
Scanning her biometric credentials.
Removing documents.
Accessing restricted financial systems.
Every angle.
Every minute.
Vanessa whispered,
"...Daniel?"
He couldn't answer.
At exactly 9:30 a.m., two federal investigators entered the building.
"Daniel Hale?"
He slowly nodded.
"We have a warrant to seize all company devices."
Employees stopped working.
Entire departments watched silently.
No one defended him.
No one looked surprised.
Apparently...
Olivia hadn't been gathering evidence for months alone.
Several employees had quietly reported irregularities as well.
One investigator opened another folder.
"There is also evidence that company funds were transferred into an account belonging to Vanessa Brooks."
Vanessa, who had arrived hoping to enjoy Daniel's promotion, froze.
"What?"
The investigator turned toward her.
"You may wish to contact legal counsel."
Her confident smile vanished instantly.
Meanwhile...

I opened my eyes inside the recovery room.
The first thing I heard...
Was crying.
A tiny, determined cry.
The nurse smiled through tears.
"You have a beautiful little boy."
She gently placed him against my chest.
Every fear.
Every betrayal.
Every sleepless night...
Disappeared.
His tiny fingers wrapped around mine.
I whispered,
"You'll never have to earn love."
The nurse quietly handed me another phone.
"The board chairman is on line one."
I smiled.
"Put him through."
His voice sounded relieved.
"It's done."
May you like
I looked down at my son.
"I know."
