Part 2: Five Minutes to Ruin

Five minutes.
That was all it took for Adrian Vale's perfect world to begin collapsing.
He folded his arms and smirked at me.
"So? Did your retired accountant father promise to sue me?"
Vanessa laughed loudly.
"I hope he sends you grocery money."
Neither of them noticed the vibration coming from Adrian's phone.
Once.
Twice.
Then again.
His smile slowly faded.
He glanced at the screen.
Board Chairman.
He rejected the call.
It rang again immediately.
Then his chief financial officer.
Then his personal attorney.
Then three board members in less than thirty seconds.
His confidence cracked.
"What is this?"
He answered impatiently.
"What?"
The color drained from his face.
"No... that's impossible."
Silence.
He slowly lowered the phone.
Before he could speak, another call arrived.
This time it was the bank.
His accounts had been frozen pending a financial crime investigation.
Vanessa frowned.
"What happened?"
Adrian ignored her.
His breathing became uneven.
His tablet chimed with dozens of emails.
Contracts suspended.
Credit lines revoked.
Shareholders requesting emergency meetings.
Every message arrived like another brick falling onto his chest.
Then the front gates exploded open.
Not with violence—
With authority.
A convoy of black SUVs rolled onto the estate.
Security officers stepped out first.
Behind them came investigators from the Financial Crimes Bureau.
Then officers carrying sealed evidence boxes.
Finally...
A silver Rolls-Royce stopped in front of the mansion.
The driver opened the rear door.
An elderly man stepped out.
His tailored navy suit carried no visible logo.
It didn't need one.
Every investigator immediately stood straighter.
Every executive who had arrived bowed respectfully.
My father.
Arthur Ashford.
The billionaire Adrian believed did not exist.
Vanessa whispered,
"Who... is that?"
One investigator answered quietly.
"Founder of the Ashford Global Group."
She frowned.
"The Ashford Global?"
"The company that owns nearly thirty percent of Vale Holdings."
Vanessa's champagne glass slipped from her fingers and shattered across the marble floor.
Adrian looked as though the air had been stolen from his lungs.
"No..."
Dad walked directly toward me.
His eyes never left the wounds covering my back.
For one long second, the billionaire disappeared.
He was simply a father seeing his daughter broken.
He gently removed his jacket and wrapped it around my shoulders.
"I'm sorry," he whispered.
"I should have come sooner."
Tears finally escaped my eyes.
"I wanted enough evidence."
"You have more than enough."
He nodded once.
The investigators moved.
One handed Adrian a warrant.
Another began seizing computers.
A forensic accountant opened the estate safe.
Inside were stacks of fake contracts, offshore account records, and millions in undeclared cash.
Vanessa panicked.
"This isn't mine!"
An investigator looked at her calmly.
"Your consulting company received eighty-four million dollars."
"I—I didn't know!"
"You signed every transfer."
She looked desperately at Adrian.
"Say something!"
He couldn't.
His attorney had just arrived.
Instead of defending him, the lawyer quietly handed Adrian a resignation letter.
"I can no longer represent you."
The final blow came minutes later.
The chairman of Vale Holdings entered the room.
He looked directly at Adrian.
"The board has voted unanimously."
He handed over a folder.
"You have been removed as CEO."
Adrian stared blankly.
"My company..."
The chairman corrected him.
"It was never your company."
He turned toward my father.
"Mr. Ashford... the board thanks you for protecting the shareholders."
Adrian looked back and forth between us.
Realization finally struck.

"You..."
He pointed at me with trembling fingers.
"You owned all of this?"
I met his eyes without anger.
"No."
"My father simply taught me never to mistake kindness for weakness."

At that exact moment, Adrian's knees buckled.
He collapsed onto the marble floor where he had forced me to kneel only minutes before.
