Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

A year had passed since the day the ambulance doors slammed shut on a marriage built on deception and control.
Today was my son’s first birthday.

Friends, colleagues, and family members—people who loved and respected me for who I truly was—filled the living room, laughing and celebrating this milestone of survival and joy.
I stood by the window holding my little boy, who was now walking on wobbling, energetic legs, chasing after a bright blue balloon.
The doorbell rang, and Sarah hurried to answer it, greeting a group of old college friends with a warm laugh.

I knelt down, scooped him up into my arms, and pressed a soft kiss to his curls.
“Happy birthday, my sweet boy,” I whispered, smiling out at the bright, sunlit world waiting just beyond the glass. “We made it.”
