Part 2: The Basement Beneath the Mansion

"Emily..."

Alexander's voice was barely louder than a breath.

"If you're watching this... it means Sophie found the doll."

His eyes darted toward something outside the camera.

"I don't have much time."

The video froze for a second before continuing.

"The woman you know as Camila Whitmore isn't Camila."

He swallowed painfully.

"Her real name is Lucy Hernandez. She stole Camila's identity five years ago after the real Camila disappeared during a charity trip overseas."

Emily felt the blood drain from her face.

No...

That couldn't be possible.

Every magazine had photographed "Camila Whitmore."

Every television interview.

Every charity gala.

How could an entire identity be fake?

Alexander continued.

"I didn't know until after we were married."

He looked as though he hadn't slept in weeks.

"She controls everything—my phones, my accounts, my staff. When I found documents proving who she really was, she locked me in the basement beneath our estate."

Emily's heart pounded.

Basement...

The concrete walls.

The swinging light.

It was real.

"I managed to hide copies of everything."

He forced a weak smile.

"I knew she'd inspect every package I sent. She never cared about old toys. Sophie used to love rag dolls... so I hid the evidence inside one."

The video suddenly ended.

Emily immediately opened the second file.

This one showed photographs.

Birth certificates.

Passports.

Bank transfers.

Security camera images.

One picture stopped her cold.

It showed the real Camila Whitmore entering a private airport five years earlier.

She was never seen leaving.

Emily covered her mouth.

"Oh my God..."

The final image showed a floor plan.

Whitmore Estate.

A section underneath the mansion had been highlighted in red.

A handwritten note circled one room.

HERE.

Emily grabbed her phone.

Her finger hovered over Alexander's number.

Disconnected.

Of course.

Instead she dialed 911.

By sunrise, detectives filled her apartment.

They examined the USB drive.

Photographed the fake driver's license.

Collected the doll.

One detective, Captain Ruiz, looked unusually serious.

"We've been investigating Lucy Hernandez for nearly two years."

Emily blinked.

"You know her?"

"We've never been able to prove she was Lucy."

He held up the fake driver's license.

"This changes everything."

By noon, unmarked vehicles surrounded Whitmore Estate.

Helicopters circled overhead.

Emily watched the live news from her apartment while Sophie colored beside her on the floor, blissfully unaware of the storm unfolding.

Then the screen changed.

Police battering rams smashed through the mansion's front entrance.

Officers flooded inside.

Minutes later—

Nothing.

No movement.

No announcement.

Then a radio transmission crackled through the reporters' microphones.

"We found a hidden elevator."

Emily couldn't breathe.

The cameras stayed outside.

For twenty endless minutes.

Then paramedics emerged carrying a man wrapped in thermal blankets.

His beard had grown wild.

His face was painfully thin.

But Emily recognized him immediately.

Alexander.

Alive.

Behind him, officers escorted a furious woman in handcuffs.

Her expensive designer dress couldn't hide the hatred in her eyes.

Lucy Hernandez never once looked frightened.

She only smiled.

As she passed the cameras, she turned toward them and quietly said,

"You found one prisoner."

Her smile widened.

"You haven't found the others."

The broadcast abruptly ended.

Emily's phone rang.

Captain Ruiz.

His voice was tense.

"Mrs. Carter..."

She gripped the phone tighter.

"Alexander refuses to speak to anyone."

May you like

A pause.

"He says he'll only talk to you."
