Part 2 – The Boy Who Outsmarted Two Killers

Leo's tiny hand wrapped around mine so gently that no one else in the room noticed.
His voice remained shaky, just as any frightened nine-year-old's would.
"I... I don't remember the lawyer's number anymore."
Marcus finally unlocked the hospital door, believing panic had erased the child's memory.
"You see?" he sneered. "He's just scared."
Victoria wasn't convinced.
Her eyes stayed fixed on Leo.
"You've always been too smart," she murmured. "Just like your mother."
Leo lowered his head.
"I only want my mom."
Marcus sighed dramatically the moment a nurse entered.
"My wife always loved our son more than anything," he said loudly enough for everyone nearby to hear. "Please... do everything possible."
The performance was flawless.
Tears.
Red eyes.
A trembling voice.
Anyone watching would have believed he was the picture of a devoted husband.
Everyone except me.
And my son.
After they finally left, another pair of footsteps entered.
Slower.
Confident.
Measured.
A woman's voice whispered near my ear.
"Mrs. Hart?"
It was Ms. Evelyn Lawson.
My attorney.
Leo had done it.
"I know you can hear me."
She paused.
"If you understand me, blink twice."
Every muscle in my face screamed in protest.
But somehow...
One blink.
Another.
She inhaled sharply.
"Oh my God..."
A nurse gasped.
"Doctor!"
Within seconds, my hospital room exploded into controlled chaos.
Doctors rushed in.
Machines beeped louder.
Lights flashed across my eyes.
Someone shouted,
"She's responding!"
Marcus and Victoria weren't allowed back inside.
For the first time in twelve days...
I was no longer alone.
Three hours later.
I still couldn't speak.
But I could hear everything.
Dr. Samuel Greene closed the curtain around my bed.
"You've suffered severe brain trauma," he explained carefully.
"Don't force yourself."
I blinked.
He nodded.
"We'll communicate with yes-or-no questions."
Ms. Lawson stood beside him.
She held a yellow legal folder against her chest.
"I need to ask something very important."
Blink once for yes.
Twice for no.
"Was the accident intentional?"
I blinked once.
Silence filled the room.
The doctor looked at Ms. Lawson.
She looked back at him.
Neither spoke for several seconds.
Then she asked another question.
"Did someone try to kill you?"
One blink.
The doctor's face drained of color.
Ms. Lawson leaned closer.
"Was it Marcus?"
One blink.
"And... Victoria?"
Another blink.
The room became deathly quiet.
Finally, the attorney opened her folder.
"I'm sorry," she whispered.
"I was afraid you'd answer that."
She handed the doctor several documents.
"These were signed thirteen days ago."
He scanned them.
His eyebrows shot upward.
"This transfers controlling ownership of Hart Development..."
"...into a protected trust."
She nodded.
"Controlled solely by Valerie Hart."
"And if anything suspicious happened to her..."
She turned another page.
"...all assets immediately become frozen."
The doctor stared at her.
"So Marcus owns..."
"Nothing."
Meanwhile...
Two floors below...
Marcus smiled while drinking expensive coffee in the hospital café.
"We're almost finished," he told Victoria.
"The life-support comes off tomorrow."
Victoria finally relaxed.
"And the company?"
"It's already mine."
Just then...
Marcus's phone rang.
He answered casually.
"What?"
His smile disappeared.
"What do you mean every account is frozen?"
Another pause.
His face turned gray.
"The banks refuse every transaction?"
Victoria grabbed his arm.
"What happened?"
Marcus whispered,
"...the trust activated."
Victoria froze.
"That's impossible."
Marcus suddenly remembered Leo's words.
Ms. Lawson.
The lawyer.
He slammed his coffee onto the floor.
"The boy."
That evening, Marcus marched toward my hospital room.
Two security officers blocked the doorway.
"You can't enter."
"I'm her husband."
"Not anymore."
"What?"
One officer handed him a legal notice.
"Mrs. Hart's attorney requested emergency protective measures."
Marcus ripped open the envelope.
Inside was one sentence.
All marital assets are frozen pending criminal investigation.
For the first time in years...
Marcus looked afraid.
Very afraid.

The next morning...
I opened my eyes.
And the first face I saw...
Was Leo's.
He burst into tears.
"I knew you'd come back."
Although my throat burned like fire...
I somehow whispered my first words.
"I promised..."
"...I always would."
Leo threw his arms around me carefully.
May you like
Outside the room...
Two detectives were already waiting.
