Part 5: The Dawn of a New Dynasty

One year later.

The Costello estate in Alpine, New Jersey, had changed. The oppressive, dark Gothic fortress that had once filled me with dread now radiated a warm, vibrant life. The high stone walls and armed security remained—such was the nature of Dominic’s world—but the dark windows had been replaced with bright, clear glass that let the morning sun flood the grand hallways.

The East Gardens, where I had nearly lost my life exactly twelve months ago, were completely transformed. The old stone fountain had been remodeled, surrounded now by a breathtaking greenhouse filled with winter-blooming jasmine and white roses.

I stood in front of the full-length mirror in the master bedroom, smoothing down the skirts of my wedding gown. It was a masterpiece of intricate white lace, with a long, flowing train that swept across the polished hardwood floors. My hands were completely healed, the smooth skin showing no signs of the frostbite that had once threatened to ruin them. Around my neck hung a simple, elegant necklace of pearls—a gift from Dominic, symbolizing a new beginning built on purity and trust, rather than the blood-soaked diamonds of his past.

The door opened, and Marco walked in, wearing a sharp grey tuxedo. His shoulder had healed perfectly, and he carried a large bouquet of white roses in his arms.

"You look beautiful, Chloe," Marco smiled warmly, handing me the flowers. "The Don is waiting downstairs. He’s pacing the floor like a caged tiger. I think he’s more nervous today than he was when we took over Brooklyn."

I laughed softly, a sound that had become common in this house over the past year. "Is everything ready?"

"The entire Commission is here," Marco nodded, his expression turning respectful. "Every major family from Chicago, Miami, and Las Vegas has sent their representatives. They aren't just here for a wedding, Chloe. They are here to pay respect to the new era of the Costello family. They know that behind the strongest Don in America stands a woman who gave him a reason to be a true leader."

As Marco escorted me down the grand staircase, the murmurs of conversation in the grand dining hall fell silent. It was the same room where Dominic had carried my frozen body a year ago, but today, the dark leather sofas had been replaced with rows of elegant white chairs filled with the most powerful figures in the country.

But I didn't see any of them.

My eyes were locked entirely on the man standing at the end of the aisle.

Dominic Costello stood before the altar, looking devastatingly handsome in a tailored black tuxedo. The harsh, ruthless lines of his face—the face that usually terrified his enemies—softened completely the moment his eyes met mine. A look of pure, unadulterated reverence crossed his features.

When I reached him, he took my hand, his grip warm, steady, and incredibly gentle.

"You are a vision, Chloe," he whispered, his dark eyes shining with an emotion so deep it made my heart ache with happiness.

The priest began the ceremony, his words echoing through the silent hall, but Dominic and I never broke eye contact. We didn't need the traditional vows to understand the commitment we were making. We had already been through the fire and the ice together.

"Do you, Dominic Costello, take Chloe Bennett to be your lawfully wedded wife, to love, honor, and protect her, in times of war and times of peace, for as long as you both shall live?"

"I do," Dominic said, his voice ringing with absolute certainty. He slid a stunning platinum band onto my finger, a ring that carried no curse of the past, only the promise of a golden future.

"And do you, Chloe Bennett, take Dominic Costello to be your lawfully wedded husband, to stand by his side, to share his burdens and his triumphs, for as long as you both shall live?"

"I do," I replied, my voice steady and clear.

"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."

Dominic didn't hesitate. He pulled me into his arms, his hand cradling the back of my head as his lips met mine in a deep, passionate kiss that sealed our fates forever. The dining hall erupted into loud applause and cheers, led by Marco and the loyal Costello soldiers who had fought to protect our love.

Later that evening, as the wedding reception continued downstairs with music, laughter, and high-priced wine, Dominic led me out onto the private balcony of our bedroom.

The night was crisp and clear, a beautiful contrast to the violent blizzard of the previous year. A gentle snow began to fall from the starry sky, the white flakes drifting lazily through the air, catching the light from the garden lanterns below.

Dominic wrapped his long wool coat around both of our shoulders, pulling me tight against his chest. I rested my head against his shoulder, listening to the steady, comforting rhythm of his heartbeat.

"Are you cold?" he asked softly, his breath warm against my ear.

I looked up at him, a bright, radiant smile on my lips as I took his hand, locking our fingers together.

May you like

"Never again, Dominic," I whispered, kissing his jaw. "With you, I will always be warm."

He smiled, a rare, beautiful expression of pure contentment, and kissed me under the falling snow. My story had begun in the freezing dark as a maid working off a hopeless debt. But tonight, beside the man who had destroyed empires to save me, I was finally free. I was Chloe Costello, the cherished queen of a new, unbreakable dynasty.
