Chapter 10 - The Beautiful Circle of Love

Three years later, the sun shone brilliantly over a beautiful botanical garden in Chicago. The air was filled with the scent of blooming roses and the joyful sound of live string music. It was my wedding day.

I stood in the bridal suite, looking at myself in the full-length mirror. At thirty-six years old, I wore a stunning, elegant white lace dress. I looked radiant, happy, and entirely at peace.

The door opened, and my mother walked in. She looked beautiful in her mother-of-the-bride dress, her eyes crinkling with happy tears. She walked over to me, carefully adjusting the veil behind my head.

"You are absolutely breathtaking, Emma," she whispered, her hands gently resting on my shoulders. "I look at you today, and I see the strong, incredible woman you've always been. I am so incredibly proud to be your mother."

"Thanks, Mom," I said, turning around and hugging her tightly. "Thank you for being here."

A knock on the door signaled it was time. I walked out into the hallway, where two men were waiting for me.

My father stood on the left, wearing a sharp tuxedo. He looked at me, his eyes instantly welling with tears. He extended his arm to me. "You look beautiful, Emmy," he said, using the childhood nickname he hadn't used since I was a teenager.

But he wasn't the only one walking me down the aisle. On my right stood Leo, now seventeen years old, towering over both of us, looking incredibly handsome in his matching tuxedo. He grinned, extending his arm to me as well.

"Ready, Mom?" Leo asked, his blue eyes sparkling with joy.

"Ready," I smiled, slipping my arms through both of theirs.

The heavy wooden doors of the garden chapel opened, and the guests stood up. I saw Chloe sitting in the front row, smiling broadly and waving. I saw our close friends and colleagues cheering. And at the end of the aisle stood David, looking at me with a love so fierce and unconditional it took my breath away.

As my father and my son walked me down the aisle, flanking me with a protective, generational love, I looked up at the clear blue sky. I felt a subtle, warm breeze brush against my cheek, and in my heart, I knew it was Julian. I knew he was looking down on us, smiling, seeing that the little sister who had protected his legacy had finally found her own beautiful, well-deserved happily ever after.

My father and Leo handed me over to David. My father leaned in, kissing my cheek and whispering, "I love you, Emma." Leo gave David a firm handshake and a hug, saying, "Take care of my mom."

David took my hands in his, leaning close. "You are my entire world, Emma Vance," he whispered.

May you like

"And you are mine," I replied.

The priest began the ceremony, but as I looked out at my family—my parents healed, my son whole, my husband-to-be smiling, and my brother's memory enshrined in love—I realized that our story was no longer about the night I was thrown out. It was about the beautiful, unbreakable circle of love that had brought us all back home.
