Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

Years later, the name Damian Voss became a fading legend in San Diego—a ghost story whispered by old mobsters about the king who fell and rose again, only to vanish into the light.

Some said he retired to a quiet vineyard in Italy. Some said he disappeared into the mountains of the Pacific Northwest.

The truth was much simpler.

On a warm Saturday afternoon, sitting on the porch of a sun-drenched coastal home overlooking the blue expanse of the Pacific, I watched two brilliant young women laughing as they carried their college acceptance letters up the front steps.

Nora and Maya. Strong, intelligent, fearless young women who had survived the darkest corners of the underworld and emerged into the light.

As they ran up to hug me, I looked out at the endless horizon where the ocean met the golden sky. The poison in my veins was long gone, replaced by the quiet warmth of a life truly earned.

The empire of blood and fear was dead. But out of its ashes, something far greater had grown.

I had spent the first half of my life terrifying a city. I would spend the rest of my life protecting the people who mattered most.

And for the first time in my life, I truly felt at peace.
