Chapter 10 - Happily Ever After

Five years later, the morning sun shone brightly over the rolling green lawns of our new home in the countryside—a sprawling, sunlit estate filled with laughter, warmth, and unconditional love.
I sat on the wooden porch swing, sipping a cup of coffee while watching six-year-old Hunter chase our golden retriever across the grass, his bright laughter echoing through the morning air. He had grown into a strong, smart, and deeply joyful little boy, completely untouched by the turbulence of his birth.
Footsteps sounded behind me, followed by strong, familiar arms wrapping gently around my shoulders from behind. A warm kiss pressed softly against the top of my head.
“Good morning, beautiful,” Marcus murmured, resting his chin comfortably on my shoulder.
“Good morning, husband,” I smiled, leaning back against his chest and covering his hands with mine.
We had been married for two years now, a wedding as intimate and full of genuine joy as our previous life had been cold and transactional. Marcus had retired from active federal fieldwork to join Sinclair Ventures as our chief strategic advisor, allowing us to build both a financial empire and a loving family side by side.
“The board meeting in New York is all set for next Tuesday,” Marcus noted playfully. “Are you ready to expand the firm to the East Coast?”
“Always,” I smiled, turning around in his embrace to look into his warm, devoted eyes. “Sinclair Ventures is just getting started.”
From across the lawn, little Hunter waved frantically, shouting, “Mom! Dad! Come play catch!”
Marcus laughed, looking down at me with an expression of pure, unadulterated happiness. “Duty calls, CEO Sinclair.”
I stood up, taking his hand tightly in mine as we walked out together into the bright, sunlit grass, running toward our son.

The villains of our story were locked away, forgotten behind prison walls. The pain of the past had been thoroughly washed away by time, strength, and unwavering truth. And as I looked at the man I loved and the son who made every battle worth fighting, I knew the absolute truth of our ending:
We hadn't just survived. We had won. And we would live happily, fiercely, and peacefully ever after.
