Part 1: The Surgeon Who Cast Me Out

I was dy!ng inside the delivery room when the renowned surgeon called to save my life walked through the doors—and he was the same man who had thr:ew me into the freezing rain nine months earlier: my ex-husband. “Don't think you can tr:ap me with a ba/stard child just to secure your future,” he had mocked, convinced I had been unfaithful. “We're losing them!” the nurse shouted in panic. Yet moments before I lost consciousness, I whispered a secret that left him staggering backward in complete h0rror...
Dr. Julian Whitaker smiled with the confidence of someone who believed the world revolved around him.
At thirty-five years old, he had already earned a reputation as one of the city's finest obstetric surgeons. Patients waited endlessly for appointments bearing his name. Major donors treated him like royalty. Nurses instinctively softened their voices whenever he appeared.
And Julian embraced every bit of the attention.
His office high above Harborview Medical Center looked more like a luxury apartment than a physician's workspace, with polished marble floors, expensive leather furniture, gold-framed credentials, and breathtaking city views that constantly reminded him of his success.
Straightening the sleeve of his custom-made suit, he glanced at the Rolex on his wrist.
The intercom interrupted the silence.
“Dr. Whitaker?” Grace asked nervously.
Julian frowned immediately.
Being interrupted irritated him.
“What is it, Grace?”
“We have an emergency in labor and delivery. The patient is experiencing critical complications and needs immediate care.”
He exhaled impatiently.
“Contact the physician on duty.”

A brief pause followed.
“You're the physician on duty, doctor. The other surgeon is still in the operating room.”
His expression hardened.
He had intended to leave early for an exclusive private dinner where powerful people admired his success.
Then Grace quietly spoke another sentence.
“Doctor... the patient's name is Amelia Brooks.”
Everything changed.
For the first time all day, Julian's confident smile disappeared.
Me.
The woman he had cast into the freezing rain nine months ago.
The woman Vivian Whitaker called nothing more than a parasite.
The woman he accused of betrayal.
The woman he insisted he no longer thought about.
Nine months earlier I stood outside our mansion with only one suitcase while tears filled my eyes. Julian believed the manipulated photographs his mother had placed before him instead of trusting me.
“Don't try to tr:ap me with a bastard child to save your meal ticket.”
His cruel words still echoed inside my memory.
One hand rested over my stomach while the other held documents proving his own mother had stolen millions from Harborview Medical Center.
“Julian... please. Just read them. Listen to me.”
He refused.
He thr:ew the evidence away.
Signed the divorce papers.
Ordered me out of his life.
And convinced himself he had protected his empire.
Now I had returned.
Inside his hospital.
Bringing a child into the world.
And somewhere beneath his pride, a question he had buried refused to stay silent.
Julian hurried through the corridors with his white coat trailing behind him. Nurses stepped aside. Doctors stopped talking.
Everyone recognized that expression.
But when the delivery room doors opened, every trace of arrogance vanished.
I lay weak on the hospital bed, trembling and drenched in sweat. My hair stuck to my face while my hands gripped the rails until my knuckles turned pale.
The moment I saw him, pain filled my eyes.
Not only physical pain.
The kind betrayal leaves forever.
“You?” I whispered softly.
“Anyone but you.”
Julian couldn't move.
For one brief second he wasn't the famous surgeon everyone respected.
He was only a man staring at the woman he had destroyed.
Grace handed him the chart.
“Her bl00d pressure is eighty-five over fifty and falling. The baby's heartbeat is slowing rapidly. We need to act now.”
Julian opened the file.
His eyes stopped on one line.
He checked it again.
And again.
His fingers tightened around the paper.
I turned my face away while tears silently rolled down.
“Julian,” I whispered with fading strength, “I never wanted you to discover the truth like this.”
The room became silent.
The monitors accelerated.
Grace stared at him.
Julian looked from my stomach back to the chart.
Nine months.
Exactly nine months.
His voice trembled.
“Is this baby... mine?”
I closed my eyes.
Before any answer escaped my lips, the monitor released one endless alarm.
Grace cried out,
“Doctor, we're losing them!”
The chart slipped from Julian's hands.
And in that single terrifying moment, the richest, coldest, most arrogant doctor inside Harborview Medical Center realized he might lose the woman he had abandoned...
And the child whose existence he had never known.
But the secret I whispered before they rushed me into surgery made Julian stagger backward as though he had been h!t.
Because the baby was not the only secret I had been hiding
