Chapter 10 - A Happily Ever After

The snow fell softly outside, blanketing our front yard in a pristine, white layer of winter magic, while inside our home, the air was filled with the sweet scent of baking cookies, cinnamon, and warm laughter.
The living room tree was lit up with twinkling golden lights that reflected off the ornaments Valentina had crafted over the years.
Valentina sat at the dining table with her uncle Robert, laughing as she tried to stack too many marshmallows onto her mug of hot cocoa while Robert playfully pretended to steal them.
Daniel stood beside me by the kitchen counter, wrapping his arms around my waist from behind and resting his chin softly on my shoulder.
“Look at this,” Daniel whispered, his voice full of quiet wonder. “This is what family is supposed to feel like.”
I turned around in his embrace, wrapping my arms around his neck and smiling up at him.
“It took us a while to get here,” I murmured, “but we made it.”
“Yeah, we did,” he replied softly, pressing a gentle kiss to my lips.
We had walked through a storm of decades-long deception, emotional blackmail, and toxic greed. We had faced the ghosts of the past at midnight in a frightened child's bedroom and dragged the dark secrets out into the light.
And in doing so, we hadn't just protected our daughter’s MacBook or her dream of creating stories; we had protected her spirit, her joy, and her right to grow up in a home built on absolute truth, safety, and unconditional love.
From the corner of the room, Valentina caught our eye, raised her mug of hot cocoa with a bright, triumphant grin, and called out, “To the best family ever!”
