Chapter 6 - The Aftermath and Accountability
Two days later, the real-world consequences of Vanessa's entitlement caught up with her.
Because of the park ranger’s formal report and the park administrator’s documentation, Vanessa and my mother received a bill for $1,200 from the city for emergency security deployment, cleanup of unauthorized alcohol in a restricted family zone, and facility disruption fees.
Furthermore, the venue where Vanessa had planned her upcoming wedding reception—a historic botanical garden hall—caught wind of the park incident after one of Vanessa’s "friends" posted a dramatic TikTok about the "park brawl." The venue management called Vanessa to verify her conduct, and when she threw a screaming fit over the phone, they canceled her reservation for breach of conduct clauses.
When Vanessa found out she had lost her wedding venue, she showed up at my apartment unannounced.
She banged on the door for ten minutes straight until I finally opened it with a chain lock engaged.
"You did this!" she screamed through the crack. "They canceled the Botanical Gardens! My wedding is ruined!"

I shut the door in her face and locked the deadbolt.
