Chapter 5 - The Desperate Counterattack

Just as our lives were beginning to stabilize, the past attempted to drag us back into the dark. Patricia was not a woman who accepted defeat quietly, nor was she willing to give up the immense wealth and social status she had spent years trying to secure through me.
On a rainy Tuesday morning, my chief legal counsel, Arthur Pendelton, arrived at the mansion without prior notice. His expression was grim as Marcus escorted him into my private office.
"Alejandro," Arthur said, placing a thick manila folder on my desk. "We have a situation. Patricia’s lawyers have filed a massive civil lawsuit against you, Vance Enterprises, and specifically against Rosa."
I frowned, opening the file. "On what grounds?"
"Defamation, breach of contract regarding the prenuptial agreements, emotional distress, and unlawful termination of residence," Arthur explained, sighing deeply. "But that's not the worst part. She has approached several major tabloid networks. She is spinning a narrative that you are an unstable, abusive billionaire who uses your wealth to isolate your daughters, and that you fabricated the security footage using artificial intelligence to frame her because you wanted to end the engagement without paying the contract termination penalties."
I let out a harsh, cold laugh. "Fabricated? The footage is raw, time-stamped, and verified by Marcus's security encryption servers."
"To a court of law, yes, it’s ironclad," Arthur agreed. "But to the court of public opinion? A headline like 'Billionaire Tycoon Uses AI to Frame Fiancée and Hide Domestic Misconduct' sells millions of copies. She is demanding a fifty-million-dollar settlement to drop the lawsuit and sign a non-disclosure agreement. If you don't pay by Friday, she threatens to release an exclusive interview along with edited audio recordings she secretly took during your arguments."
I stood up, walking over to the large floor-to-ceiling window overlooking the rainy gardens. I watched as Martina and Daniela, wearing bright yellow raincoats and boots, splashed in puddles with Barnaby, while Rosa watched them from the covered patio with a warm smile.
Patricia wanted a war. She thought she could blackmail me by threatening my public reputation and the stock value of Vance Enterprises. She thought that because I had been passive during our relationship, I would be passive now to protect my image.
She had profoundly miscalculated.
"Arthur," I said, turning around, my voice flat and icy. "Are we prepared to countersue?"
"We have everything we need for a total destruction of her claims, Alejandro," Arthur replied, a sharp, professional glint appearing in his eyes. "But it will mean making the security footage public during the legal proceedings. It will mean your family’s private pain will be broadcasted on the evening news."
I walked back to my desk, leaning over it, looking Arthur directly in the eyes. "Patricia tried to destroy my children’s minds. Now she is trying to attack the woman who protected them. I will not pay her a single penny. I don't care about the stock price. I don't care about the headlines. We go to war."
"What is the strategy, sir?"
"We don't wait for Friday," I commanded. "We file a countersuit for malicious prosecution, extortion, and criminal child abuse before the courts close today. We attach the unedited, certified security footage directly to the public filing. Let the journalists see the truth before she can even sell her lies. Let the world see exactly who Patricia Vance—or whatever her real name is—truly is."
Arthur smiled a cold, satisfied smile. "Consider it done, Alejandro. She won't know what hit her."
By four o'clock that afternoon, the legal bombshell dropped. The news media, expecting a scandalous exposé on a wealthy tycoon, instead received an undeniable, horrifying look at a socialite caught red-handed abusing two young children and threatening an elderly employee.
The backlash against Patricia was instantaneous and catastrophic for her. The public opinion she hoped to weaponize turned into a raging torrent of outrage directed entirely at her. The luxury brands that had sponsored her social media dropped her within minutes. Her high-society friends vanished like smoke.
By Thursday morning, Patricia’s legal team formally withdrew their lawsuit and submitted a desperate plea for a settlement, offering a total non-disclosure agreement if I dropped the criminal abuse charges we had initiated.
I tore the settlement offer in half and threw it into the wastebasket.

"Tell them I'll see her in criminal court," I told Arthur over the phone.
I would show no mercy. She had crossed the line into my home and threatened the people I loved most. The lion had been awakened, and it wouldn't stop until the threat to its cubs was entirely neutralized.
