Chapter 10 - Forever Unbroken
Ten years later, the Cherry Hills estate looked more magnificent than ever. The gardens were a breathtaking masterpiece of vibrant flowerbeds, perfectly trimmed hedges, and towering trees that provided cool shade across the sprawling lawns.
On a crisp, sunlit Saturday afternoon, the property was filled with the sounds of joyful laughter, running footsteps, and celebratory music.
A ten-year-old boy with bright, intelligent eyes and an infectious smile was darting across the lawn, chasing a golden retriever while a group of cheering friends egged him on. He was smart, athletic, deeply loved, and completely surrounded by a supportive, unshakable family.
Inside the grand living room, Chloe stood near the piano, laughing as she conversed with close friends and family members who had stood by her through every chapter of her life. Dressed in an elegant, sophisticated emerald-green dress, she radiated a quiet, commanding grace. She had successfully built her own interior design firm over the years, becoming a respected entrepreneur and a pillar in the Denver community.
She looked toward the French doors leading out to the patio.
Standing by the doorway was Daniel. Though his hair was now completely silver, he stood tall, strong, and impeccably sharp in a tailored navy blazer. He was watching his grand-nephew run across the lawn with an expression of pure, unfiltered joy and grandfatherly pride.
Chloe excused herself from her conversation, walked across the polished hardwood floor, and stepped out onto the patio beside her uncle. She handed him a crystal glass filled with sparkling cider.
“To ten years of peace, strength, and family,” Chloe toasted softly, clinking her glass gently against his.
Daniel turned, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he smiled warmly down at her.
“To ten years, and a lifetime more,” Daniel replied, clinking his glass in return. He took a sip, then looked out across the lawn where the young boy was now proudly showing off a soccer trophy to his friends. “Can you believe how fast time flies? Look at him. He’s growing into an incredible young man.”
“He is,” Chloe whispered, leaning her head affectionately against Daniel’s shoulder. “And he knows every single day how deeply he is loved. He knows he never has to fear the world, because he has a family that would move mountains to protect him.”
Daniel wrapped a strong, protective arm around her shoulders, pulling her close.
