Chapter 1 - The Stolen Envelope
I found my 11-year-old daughter crying behind the garage, holding an empty envelope that used to contain every dollar she had earned.
"Mom... it's gone."
My stomach dropped.
Inside that envelope was $275.
Not allowance money.
Not a gift.
Every single dollar came from months of hard work selling lemonade, homemade cookies, and small crafts from a little table she set up in our front yard.
She saved it because she wanted to buy a new bicycle and donate part of it to an animal shelter.
Then I saw my sister, Rachel, walking into the house wearing a brand-new outfit.
Her hair was freshly styled.
Her nails were perfectly done.
She was smiling.
"Rachel," I said slowly, "where did you get the money for all that?"
She looked at me like I was asking something ridiculous.
Then she laughed.
"Oh, please. Don't make this dramatic."
My daughter stepped into the room.
"That was my money."
Rachel didn't even look sorry.
Instead, she shrugged.
"Kids don't need money."
The words hit harder than I expected.
My daughter's face changed.
She wasn't just upset about the money.
She was hurt because someone she trusted didn't care.
I looked at Rachel.
For years, I had helped her whenever she needed something.
But this time was different.
She didn't borrow.
She didn't ask.
She took from a child.
"I'll pay you back eventually," she said casually.

That word made my decision clear.
I didn't scream.
I didn't insult her.
I didn't create a scene.
I simply picked up my phone.
Rachel noticed.
"What are you doing?"
I looked at her calmly.
"Taking care of this."
She smiled.
"You can't do anything."
That was when I opened an app on my phone and pressed one button.
Five minutes later, Rachel's confident expression disappeared.
Her phone started ringing.
Then ringing again.
