Chapter 10 - The Fortress of Home

Later that afternoon, we took a family walk through our neighborhood as the golden autumn sun began to dip low toward the horizon, casting long, peaceful shadows across the sidewalks.

Our toddler rode happily in the stroller, pointing excitedly at every passing dog and rustling pile of leaves, while Sarah and I walked hand-in-hand beside each other.

The air was crisp and clean, carrying the earthy scent of fallen leaves and woodsmoke from a neighbor's chimney.

As we rounded the corner onto our street, our house came into view. The white siding gleamed in the late afternoon sun, the front porch was decorated with a bright orange pumpkin we had picked out together, and the windows reflected the warm, inviting light from within.
